Elara caught the meaning behind the old woman's words.
"I'm sorry, Grandma. I wasn't thinking things through. The Vincent family helped me when I was at my lowest—I'd never do anything to hurt them, let alone help someone else go after them."
Felice nodded. "From now on, I won't interfere in your affairs. You're on your own."
Elara nodded, then helped her grandfather outside to catch a cab.
John Prescott stepped up. "The young master still can't let go."
Felice shook her head, a trace of sorrow flickering across her face. "This time, I'm afraid Elara won't come out of this unscathed."
John hesitated before asking, "You're really going to let the young master keep Miss Winters around?"
"That woman is practically begging me to go after her. If I really did, she'd just run straight to Brian and play the victim. It'd only push them closer together. Better to just turn a blind eye for now…"
A subtle, knowing smile played at the old woman's lips.
"…And when the time is right, give things a little nudge. Let her reveal her true colors to Brian herself—wouldn't that be more satisfying?"

Elara brought her grandfather back to Celestial River Estates.
Rose, relieved to see Elara unharmed, insisted she stay for dinner before heading out.
"Derek got three years and nine months. So that's it—the Walker family is done with politics. All because of—"
"You're still defending him?" Gage cut her off.
"I'm not defending him. With all this mess, it's better they got divorced. But with Brian's power, he won't even have to lift a finger to make Elara's life miserable. She'll have to watch her back from now on."
Elara didn't respond to Rose's warning. Instead, she turned to Gage, her tone shrewd.
"Grandpa, it's been four years since Ryan Linden disappeared. Should we ask the police if they ever found his body?"
"Don't be silly," Rose interjected. "If they'd found anything, the police would've called us to identify him. Besides, after four years in the river…"
Her voice broke.
The pain of losing her son hadn't faded, not even a little.
Elara smiled. "How thoughtful of you to let me know Brian's got a love nest out here. We're not even divorced yet, so by law, this house is still marital property. I could have you thrown out anytime I want. Maybe you should try speaking to me with a little more respect."
"You—you wouldn't dare!"
Nanette was shaking with rage.
Elara didn't bother arguing. She turned and walked right past her.
Just as she stepped outside and went to call Summer, her phone rang.
Jason's number flashed across the screen.
Elara was surprised he'd managed to get her number.
"Is Mrs. Vincent safe now?" Jason asked.
"Yes," she replied.
"I was the one who spread the news you'd gone missing, guided your grandfather to file a report, and made sure Felice knew so she'd join the search. That's how you were found. Mrs. Vincent, it's time for you to keep your promise."
