To Love a Shadow, To Be the Sun novel Chapter 321

A few minutes later, Brian Vincent led her downstairs, his hand wrapped protectively around hers.

He’d left his car parked deliberately out on the street, in plain sight.

Carefully, he helped her into the passenger seat before circling around to the driver’s side.

Across the street, Zane Lawrence watched as their car pulled away, his gaze dropping, silent and unreadable.

Quincy Shelton lingered nearby, waiting for instructions. When none came, he finally spoke up. “They didn’t argue. Judging by the dew on Brian’s car, he must’ve been parked here all night. Looks like they made up.”

In other words, his boss was officially out of the running.

Zane slowly lifted his eyes, calm and composed. “Take her car to Ignition Dynamics. Once we’re done here, we’re heading back to Capital City.”

Quincy nodded without hesitation.

Two hours later, Brian’s car rolled to a stop in front of Ignition Dynamics.

Elara Jules unbuckled her seatbelt, ready to get out, but the door wouldn’t budge.

She turned, frowning at him. “What are you doing now?”

“No goodbye kiss?” Brian asked, a teasing smile on his lips.

Her good mood evaporated instantly. “Are you out of your mind?”

Brian just grinned. “Elara, I’ve never betrayed you. Won’t be long before you see that for yourself.”

With that, he finally unlocked the doors.

Elara didn’t spare him so much as a glance as she got out, shutting the door behind her without looking back.

Inside the lobby, Summer Calloway hurried over, car keys in hand. “Quincy Shelton dropped these off. Didn’t say a word—just left.”

A chill crept into Elara’s heart.

Zane must’ve misunderstood.

Without a second thought, she pulled out her phone and dialed his number. It rang for a long time before he finally picked up.

“What is it?” His voice was distant, clipped—clearly he was angry.

“I…” Elara swallowed her impatience, forcing herself to sound calm. “There’s something I need to tell you in person.”

“I’m busy.” Zane barely spared a glance at the moving truck being loaded nearby.

“You really don’t want to know what happened this morning?” she pressed.

Silence crackled over the line.

Did she want to tell him in person that she and her husband had reconciled? That he should stay out of her life?

“Not particularly,” he said at last.

“Zane!”
