To Love a Shadow, To Be the Sun novel Chapter 329

Brian cast a quick glance at the people standing beside Ellis, and for the first time, the easy confidence on his face began to crack.

His most trusted aide, Neely, was nowhere in sight.

Catching Brian’s flicker of surprise, Ellis finally managed a triumphant smile, as if he’d scored a long-awaited victory.

“I never liked that woman,” Ellis sneered. “I don’t care if she’s your wife or not—this time, she won’t make it out alive.”

Brian’s eyes darkened. “Try it, if you think you can. But I’m saving my grandmother, and as for that will… I’m not signing anything.”

Meanwhile, Elara spent the entire night trying to calm her nerves, finally catching just two hours of sleep before dawn.

A touch of makeup hid the exhaustion etched into her face. She was about to head out when her phone rang—Jason’s name lit up the screen.

She hesitated for a couple of seconds, then answered.

“Are you up yet?” Jason’s voice came through.

“I’m just leaving. What’s up?”

Jason chuckled. “I’m downstairs in the parking lot. Thought we could have breakfast together.”

Elara hung up, already turning over in her mind how to make it clear to him that she meant to keep her distance, even as she hurried toward the lot.

Jason stood alone by his Jaguar, crisp in a tailored suit, looking every inch the charming gentleman as he waited for her.

He flashed a smile as Elara approached. “Director Jules, you’re—”

He broke off mid-sentence. Not far away, a man called out in a harsh accent, “That woman usually leaves for the office around seven-thirty. Have you seen her?”

Elara’s face blanched. She clamped a hand over Jason’s mouth, but the stranger had already noticed them, his sharp gaze locking on.

Jason reacted instantly, yanking open the car door and shoving her into the passenger seat before sprinting around to the driver’s side.

But a group of tattooed thugs, lurking near Elara’s car, surged forward and cut Jason off before he could get in.

He fought back fiercely—Jason wasn’t weak—but these men were bigger, ruthless, and moved with a soldier’s precision. There were seven or eight of them, and they quickly pinned him down.
