Trash Husband, I'm the Top novel Chapter 137

A few minutes later, the housekeeper came upstairs again.

“Mrs. Chambers, your husband says you need to come downstairs.”

Aurora didn’t want to go, but the thought of her grandmother made her set her book aside.

She walked slowly into the living room and stopped next to the doctor, making no move to speak.

Daniel watched her closely, searching her calm, indifferent face for any hint of feeling.

The doctor glanced anxiously between the two, clearly sensing the tension in the room.

Clutching the medicine, he addressed Aurora with a hesitant voice. “Mrs. Chambers, these are Mr. Chambers’s prescriptions. The instructions are—”

He started to explain, half-expecting her to brush him off impatiently. Instead, Aurora listened quietly and attentively.

“I understand,” she said when he finished, her tone as steady and cool as ever.

The doctor left soon after.

Aurora instructed the housekeeper to put the medicine away. Not once did she ask Daniel where he was hurt, or whether he was in pain.

A hollow ache settled in Daniel’s chest, and his expression darkened with each passing second.

As Aurora turned to leave, he suddenly caught her wrist, unable to hide his panic and frustration any longer.

“I’m sick,” he said, his eyes fixed desperately on hers.

Aurora looked back at him, her gaze clear and chilly. “Just take your medicine on time.”

She sounded sincere, but there was no warmth behind her words.

Daniel’s throat felt painfully dry. “Aurora, I have a fever,” he insisted, as if begging for sympathy.

“If you’re really not feeling well, you should go to the hospital,” she replied coolly, pulling her wrist free.

She didn’t care how sick he was, or if he was suffering.

A flicker of pain crossed Daniel’s face, but he couldn’t find any more words.

He knew he brought all this on himself.

He deserved it.

She had never attended one of Daniel’s private gatherings before. Everyone knew their marriage hadn’t started with love, and when there’s no love, everyone expects it to end sooner or later.

Aurora arrived a little early. Only three or four people were in the lounge.

Among them were Eleanor and Monica.

The moment Aurora saw Eleanor, her brow furrowed.

If she’d known Eleanor would be here, she never would have come.

As luck would have it, Eleanor was wearing the exact same color dress and had styled her hair just like Aurora’s.

Monica crossed her arms and sneered, “Copycat much? Some people seem to think that if they dress like Eleanor, they’ll win Mr. Chambers’s favor.”

Eleanor smiled softly. “Aurora.”

Then, as if suddenly realizing something, she added sweetly, “If you don’t like me calling you that, I could always call you ‘sister-in-law’ instead.”

Every word was dripping with smugness and provocation.
