Trash Husband, I'm the Top novel Chapter 144

It’d be best to settle this quickly, before Daniel lets that scheming little vixen Aurora steal his heart again.

Aurora cradled her little boy in her arms, gently running her fingers through the thin, patchy hair on his head. Her heart ached so badly that her eyes were turning red, tears welling up before she could stop them.

She wished with all her heart that she’d be a match, that she could save Payne and give him a long, healthy life.

“Mommy,” Payne said, reaching up with his tiny hand to awkwardly wipe away the tears at the corner of her eyes. “Don’t cry, Mommy. Payne will try really hard to get better.”

Aurora choked back a sob, pressing a kiss to his forehead. “Mommy knows you will, sweetheart. I believe in you.”

You’ll grow up strong and healthy. You have to.

Out in the corridor, Warner stroked his chin, musing, “Never thought Aurora would actually have a thing for you.”

Louis corrected him flatly. “That was in the past. We’ve already cleared the air.”

Warner gave himself a little smack on the mouth, admitting his mistake.

He changed the subject to Aurora’s divorce. “Daniel keeps dragging his feet, refusing to sign the papers. It’s breaking her heart.”

Louis’s expression hardened. “I’ll handle it.”

He’d worked plenty of divorce cases—he knew what he was doing.

Honestly, from a legal standpoint, divorcing Daniel shouldn’t be difficult for Aurora.

“So… how did they end up married in the first place?” Louis asked, a rare note of curiosity in his voice.

He wasn’t the type to gossip or pry into clients’ love lives. But when it came to Aurora, he genuinely wanted to know.

Warner filled him in on how Eleanor had run away from her own wedding, forcing Aurora to step in and marry Daniel instead.

It wasn’t much of a secret anymore—pretty much everyone knew by now.

Suddenly, a sharp scream from inside the hospital room shattered the conversation.

“Payne!”

Louis and Warner rushed in together, only to find Payne’s small body limp in Aurora’s arms—and Aurora herself covered in blood.

Louis had cared for Payne for three years; he was no stranger to emergencies like this. He dashed into the hall to call for a doctor.

Within moments, Payne was rushed into the emergency room.

Aurora was frantic, her whole body trembling. “How could this happen?” she cried.
