No sooner had them left than Drusilla and Enoch made their way upstairs, back to Enoch’s room.
The memory of Enoch standing up for her had Drusilla feeling oddly vindicated. She couldn't help but show a slice of gratitude, “Thanks.”
Enoch shrugged it off, “Don’t mention it. You're my wife, after all. No way I’m letting anyone mess with you.”
He silently added, only he had the right to tease her.
Drusilla’s lips curled into a smile, “Didn’t peg you for the knight-in-shining-armor type, Mr. Taylor. The woman who ends up with you is going to be one lucky lady.”
She was always straightforward with her opinions.
If Enoch did something commendable, she wouldn’t skimp on the praise.
Enoch gave her a cool glance and said, “Woman, don’t fall for me. Remember our agreement. Don’t get all dreamy-eyed just because I showed you a bit of kindness. I find nothing more annoying than a woman who gets carried away.”
Drusilla shook her head, amused by his vanity, and assured him, “Relax! I haven’t forgotten a word of that agreement. Not if hell freezes over, not even if rivers run backward, will I fall for you.”
Enoch hummed lightly, hoping she would keep up her feisty front.
…
After the acupuncture session, Drusilla began packing up to leave, and Enoch suggested, “Why don’t you just stay over?”
“Why?” Drusilla asked.
“Because of Grandpa, who else?” Enoch responded. “You weren’t here this afternoon, and he kept asking for you. It took us ages to calm him down. It’d be more convenient if you stayed, saves you the trip back and forth.”
Drusilla declined, “I can’t, my kids are at home. I need to go see them.”
The thought of Colton getting hurt darkened her mood immediately.
