"I figured it out!" Liliana whispered sharply, "Even though I'm not pregnant, that sharp table corner could have seriously hurt me. You better check again!"
"Alright, I'll run some more tests." The family doctor replied with a weary tone as the machines started humming. Hogan quietly shut the door, feeling his heart pounding in his chest.
What had he just overheard? Liliana wasn't pregnant at all?
Then what was the deal with her supposed baby bump? Oh, right, there was no baby, so she must have lied about being pregnant to trick Finnian.
"What's up with you?" Finnian called in, noticing Hogan standing at the door with a shocked expression.
Hogan shook his head, "Nothing, Finnian. I've got to go, something came up."
Hogan hurried away, leaving Finnian to frown at his friend's odd behavior but decided not to dwell on it.
Back home, Hogan tossed and turned all night, unable to sleep.
Liliana's pregnancy was a sham, a huge lie.
He vaguely knew about the situation between Liliana and Finnian. Finnian was not keen on settling down, and their relationship was hardly what people would call romantic.
They had a one-night stand that resulted in Liliana's supposed pregnancy. Finnian didn't want the baby and offered Liliana compensation, but she pleaded with him to keep it, and he reluctantly agreed.
So, their bond was built on the idea of having a child. Without it, Finnian and Liliana would likely have no ties at all.
Remembering all this, Hogan sat up abruptly, eyes wide open.
Hogan wasn't the only one who couldn't sleep that night. Amara lay awake, tempted to call Elysia for updates. But it was nearly one in the morning, so she texted instead, "How's it going?"
Amara sighed, "Do what you need to do for yourself. Don’t let Dorian make you miserable."
"I know."
Amara put away her phone, mentally cursing Dorian, and inevitably thought of Finnian.
What was Finnian doing now? Was he still with Liliana? Was Liliana okay?
As if on cue, her phone buzzed with a message from Finnian: "Are you awake?"
Amara glared at the three words, feeling a flash of irritation.
