Finnian rushed to the hospital as fast as he could. At the entrance to the ICU, he found Jenny pacing back and forth, her anxiety palpable. The moment she saw Finnian, she clung to him like a lifeline, her voice trembling with tears. "Finn, thank God you’re here..."

He steadied her, speaking gently. "Tell me what happened to Liliana. Try to stay calm."

Jenny swallowed hard, struggling to compose herself. "I—I went to bring her dinner just now, and you won’t believe what I saw. There was blood everywhere. Liliana... she tried to slit her wrists..."

Her voice broke. "She was so pale, Finn, she looked like she was already dead. I just sat there on the floor and sobbed until the nurses came running. They took her straight into the ER..."

Jenny’s words came out in choked fragments, but Finnian understood. He stared up at the red emergency light over the surgery doors, his brow creased in worry, unable to speak.

After what felt like an eternity, the doors finally opened. A nurse stepped out, pulled down her mask, and said, "She’s stable now. There’s no need to worry. We’ll move her to a regular room soon, and I’ll come by to explain her condition."

Liliana was wheeled past them, ghostly pale against the white sheets. Finnian and Jenny followed as she was transferred to a private room, where they waited together on the small couch.

About half an hour later, the anesthesia wore off. Liliana’s eyes fluttered open, her face nearly translucent from blood loss.

Finnian strode over to her bedside, searching her face for any sign of color or life. "How are you feeling?" he asked softly.

"Finn..." The moment she saw him, tears streamed down her cheeks.

"Why are you here?" she sobbed. "Didn’t you say you didn’t want me anymore? Why did you come?"
