Under the Veil I Rule novel Chapter 363

Later, Amara took off her mask. As someone who cared a lot about appearances, Hogan found her much more agreeable after seeing her face. But as he thought back on all the little things between Amara and Finnian, he realized something didn’t add up.

It always seemed like Finnian was the one chasing after Amara, while Amara couldn’t have been less interested in him. But why? Finnian was good-looking, came from a distinguished family, was sharp as a tack, and had real influence—what more could she want? How was he not good enough for her? What gave her the right to look down on him?

Amara gave Hogan an odd look. “You know, your logic is pretty strange. Why should I have to like Finnian just because he’s supposedly a catch?”

She tilted her head, her gaze never wavering. “If I had to like anyone just because they were ‘good,’ then what’s to stop me from leaving Finnian for someone even better if they came along?”

That shut Hogan up. He stood there, speechless, not sure how to respond.

Thankfully, Mr. Kevin Everly returned a moment later, breaking the awkward silence. He seemed oblivious to the tension, asking Hogan how he was feeling before Finnian showed up as well.

When Hogan saw Finnian, he immediately called out to him and asked about Liliana. He’d already heard about her attempted suicide.

Finnian replied, “She’s doing okay. Physically, she still needs a few days in the hospital, but once she’s better, she’ll come visit you.”

Because Liliana couldn’t work for the next few days, the production schedule of the film had been delayed. Cedric, the director, was practically tearing his hair out over it.

Hogan pursed his lips. If this had happened before, hearing about Liliana’s suicide attempt would have worried him sick. But ever since he found out she’d faked a pregnancy, he saw her in a completely different light. Now, he couldn’t even be sure if her suicide attempt was genuine or just another act. He found himself strangely unmoved.
