The sales associate’s eyes widened.
The other woman?
The elegant, radiant woman standing in front of her didn’t look like any mistress she’d ever seen.
Kaia took the shopping bag from the sales associate, then turned and slapped Luna clean across the face.

Luna sidled up like a piece of gum stuck to your shoe. “What are you buying?” Luna craned her neck. “Oh? Rings? Are you getting married?”
Her tone was filled with fake surprise.
To be fair, she was a little shocked.
She’d seen Kaia not long ago with a married man. Was this some kind of mistress-turned-wife situation? Trying to lock down a man with a ring?
The thought instantly cleared up the sour feeling she’d had earlier about picking out her own engagement ring.
Kaia ignored her and held out her phone. The screen flashed with confirmation: [Payment: 19,999].
Luna’s grin widened.
“Kaia, aren’t those a bit cheap? Your boyfriend’s not gonna be mad?”
She gave a little laugh. “Alden and I are here shopping for wedding rings today too. If he found out I bought something this cheap, he’d be so mad.”
When Kaia still didn’t respond, Luna doubled down. “Are you mad at me? I know you still like Alden. I mean, who wouldn’t? Guys like him don’t come around often-handsome, successful, the full package. But Kaia, you shouldn’t stoop so low. Being the ‘other woman’-it’s never a good look.”

employee?
Kaia stared at her phone, heart skipping a beat. A strange warmth spread through her chest.
Lucien was really backing her up-just like he promised.
With time still to spare, Kaia drove to the city’s largest mall to pick out a thank-you gift for Lucien.
“Ma’am,” the sales associate said with a friendly smile, “this is our latest matching platinum band set. The design is elegant and classic. Not as flashy as diamond rings, but more wearable day-to-day. Shall I wrap it up for you?”
Kaia looked at the shimmering rings in the velvet tray, then glanced at the price tag. It was reasonable.
A gift like this-Lucien would probably appreciate it.
After all, he’d done so much for her-helping her secure shares through negotiations. Buying a gift felt like the least she could do.
Besides, the rings came as a pair. One for him and one for her.
“Yes,” Kaia said. “Wrap them, please.”
She was just pulling out her phone to pay when a familiar voice, sharp and mocking, cut through the air behind her. “Well, well. Kaia. Fancy seeing you here.”

Did he really think that just because she married Lucien, he could start calling himself one of the Graves family?
If that was his plan, he was going to be so disappointed.
Just as Kaia stepped out of Domley Tech, a notification popped up on her phone.
A friend request.
Julian had added her on WhatsApp through their shared group chat.
Perfect. Kaia had been meaning to thank him anyway, so she hit “Accept” and sent him a message:
[Hi, thank you for clearing things up with Mr. Miller the other day. I really appreciate it.]
Julian replied: [Oh, please, you’re too kind! Really, it was nothing. Just doing my job. By the way, Mr. Hanson was the one who spread rumors about you at Vanguard. Mr. Graves even stood up for you at the board meeting today.]
He added: [Don’t worry. If your firm gives you any trouble again, just let me know directly.]
An opportunity like this? Julian wasn’t going to waste it. It was the perfect chance to win favor with Kaia and show her how dependable he was.

shareholder notice in her hand. A small, satisfied smile curved her lips. “What’s the rush?”
“What do you mean?” Tobias jumped, his voice panicked. “Kaia, don’t tell me you’re backing out!”
Kaia’s smile was calm and composed. “No, I’m not changing my
mind. Relax.”
Then she abruptly changed the subject. “Are you coming to the Graves family’s wedding next week?”
Tobias frowned slightly. “Why do you ask?”
He hadn’t received an invitation from the Graves family, but Kimberly was attending as a bridesmaid.
So Luna had extended a wedding invite to Tobias and his wife as well-though technically, it was from her side of the guest list.
“No reason,” Kaia said slowly, drawing out the words on purpose. “Just wondering. Why are you so nervous?”
Tobias grew frustrated and flustered. “I’m not nervous. I just want to know when exactly you’re planning to register the marriage with Lucien. Kaia, stop dragging this out. A man like him-you need to hold on tight while you can!”
Kaia tucked the documents into her bag and waved her hand. “See you next week. Don’t worry. What you’re afraid of isn’t going to happen.”

Since getting their marriage license two days ago, Luna had been giving Alden the silent treatment.
If it weren’t for the trip to the Graves Manor today, they probably wouldn’t even be talking now.
The wedding’s next week, and yet-no proper proposal, no surprise, not even a heartfelt moment. He hadn’t even picked the ring with her. Just handed her a card and told her to get it herself.
Really?
Sure, she chose a ring she liked. Did he think the ring she picked alone would ever feel the same as one he chose with her?
Luna swallowed the bitterness in her chest. She couldn’t let anyone know how unhappy she really was.
Not when this was the marriage she had worked so hard to win.

Tobias had finally wrapped up the stock transfer deal.
Without wasting time, he gave Kaia a call and summoned her to his office.
“Kaia, it’s all taken care of. Now hurry up and tell Lucien about your marriage registration!”
