Allen’s expression froze for a split second.

The words hit deeper than he’d expected.

His voice, deep and magnetic, drifted through the air with a lazy softness. “Alright.”

Meanwhile, Alyssa-despite the money she’d just received-was starting to buckle under the pressure of Allen’s interrogation.

“Alyssa, did you know all along that Lucien and Kaia were together?” Allen’s sharp tone left no room for dodging.

Alyssa gave an awkward chuckle. “Grandpa, of course not. I only found out… maybe a few seconds before you did.”

She flashed an innocent grin. “If I’d known earlier, I swear I would’ve had some heart meds ready for you!”

“Enough with the nonsense!”

But Alyssa was quick to loop her arm through his, her voice softening as she played the doting granddaughter.

“I’m serious. Grandpa, you’ve always liked Kaia, haven’t you? You even hoped she’d marry into the family. Plus, Grandma and Kaia’s grandmother arranged the marriage ages ago,

“Alden didn’t know how good she is. So what’s the harm if Uncle Lucien marries her instead? It works out, doesn’t it?”

She lowered her voice and added sweetly, “Besides, you don’t really want Uncle Lucien to grow old alone, do you?”

He had plenty of ways to make her say it eventually.

“By the way,” he added smoothly, “you’ll have to change how you address my father too. And Alden’s dad-if you feel like calling him by his first name, go ahead. If not, you don’t have to greet him at all.”

Kaia fell silent.

Please stop.

She really wasn’t ready to think that far ahead yet.

The moment the car pulled up to the villa, Kaia finally felt like her ears could catch a break.

She never would have imagined that a man who looked so disciplined and restrained could actually be this naggy.

She glanced over at the man in the driver’s seat. “Aren’t getting out?”

Lucien gave her a lazy, half-smile. “I have to head back and deal with them. Don’t wait up for me tonight. Go to sleep early if you’re tired.”

Kaia rolled her eyes

Who’s waiting for you?

Kaia gave a nonchalant shrug. “Oh. Good luck with that.”

Lucien couldn’t help but let out a low laugh.

million dollars to her.

“Take it.”

“On it! Thank you, Uncle Lucien!”

And with that, Lucien walked out with Kaia in tow.

In the car, as Lucien drove, Kaia glanced at him from the passenger seat. The curve of his mouth caught the light, almost too dazzling to look at.

“Lucien,” she said hesitantly, “we just left without even saying goodbye to Sir Graves.”

Lucien raised an eyebrow, unfazed. “It’s fine. Alyssa can deal with him. Besides,” his tone shifted slightly, “shouldn’t you be calling me something else? We’re married now.”

Lucien’s lips tilted into a slow smirk. “Call me ‘honey’.”

He bit down on the word with deliberate emphasis, the sound almost sinful.

Heat crept up Kaia’s neck. The mere thought of that word was too much.

She quickly turned her face away.

Lucien casually rested his hand on the steering wheel, his eyes drifting toward her flawless profile.

she didn’t want to say it? No problem.

The two of them were openly flirting, completely oblivious to Alyssa’s presence.

Lucien eventually reined in the teasing. “Alright. Enough

teasing. You wanna stay? Or go home?”

Kaia hesitated, lips pressed together. “Shouldn’t you explain to your family?”

Allen hadn’t looked particularly pleased earlier.

And not just him-Zane and Joanne didn’t seem too thrilled either.

Lucien raised an eyebrow. “There’s nothing to explain. Our marriage is between you and me. No one else.”

That line, coming from anyone else, would’ve sounded arrogant -borderline childish even. Marriage was always between two families, not just two people.

But when Lucien said it, he had the confidence to make it true.

“Come on,” he murmured, his arm slipping around her waist. “Let’s go home.”

Then he added, “Alyssa, tell your grandpa we’re heading out.”

And just like that, Alyssa was the one left to clean up the mess.

“Got it, Uncle Lucien! What do I get, though?”

“Just say what you came to say,” she cut him off bluntly.

“Kaia, what’s with the attitude? I’m just chatting with your husband. Why are you butting in?”

Tobias was the textbook definition of a chauvinist. Whether it was his wife or his daughters, he never truly respected them.

In his world, he was always the one calling the shots.

So every time Kaia talked back, it struck a nerve.

Lucien’s voice broke the tension, light but commanding. “Don’t get so worked up. Kaia’s just hungry. How about weeat first? We can catch up after.”

Tobias stiffened. He never expected Lucien to defend his daughter–so openly, so sincerely.

He could only smile awkwardly. “Of course. Kaia, you eat first. Another time then. You can bring him home for a visit.”

Once he finally left, Kaia let out a soft, mocking laugh. “You don’t have to bother with him. He’s just trying to use you.”

She couldn’t care less if Domley Tech sank or swam,

Honestly, she’d prefer it if the whole company went bankrupt.

Lugien gave her a lazy smile. “And what about you? Do you want to take advantage of me too?”
