Chapter 202 The Fate of the Wicked
Kaia braced herself for an interrogation, but Lucien simply nodded and said, “Alright.”
He offered his support without question, keeping the promise he’d made before their marriage.
Kaia’s heart swirled with a bittersweet mix of emotions. He
didn’t need to say it, and she knew it already. Lucien’s love for her burned fierce and unshakable.
Back at the villa, she regained her strength after two days of uninterrupted rest.
At the Graves Manor, Kaia ran into Alden, someone she hadn’t
seen in ages.
While Lucien disappeared into the study to talk with Allen, Kaia wandered through the garden, soaking in the quiet. Suddenly, Alden appeared.
Kaia’s guard shot up. She spun on her heel, eager to slip away.
The last thing she needed was some nosy servants spotting her alone with Alden, even for a fleeting moment. She wasn’t about to fuel the gossip mill.
“Kaia, what are you running for!” Alden’s voice carried a mix of frustration and pleading.

Kaia’s nose wrinkled in distaste. “Stop right there, Alden. Don’t come any closer.”
Thankfully, Alyssa swept in just in time, catching the tense
moment.
“Alden, what’s your deal?”
Alyssa planted herself protectively in front of Kaia, and Kaia let out a quiet sigh of relief.
As long as someone else was there, she was fine.
Alden’s jaw tightened, his voice sharp. “What’s with you two? I just wanted to talk.”
Alyssa scoffed, her tone dripping with sarcasm, “Oh, please, Alden. Kaia’s with Uncle Lucien now. Got something to say? Say
it to his face.”
Alden’s lips pressed into a thin line, his eyes flickering with hurt.
“Kaia, do we really have to be like this? Can’t we just… have some talk?”
Kaia’s gaze was icy, cutting through him like a blade, “Better not. I don’t want my husband getting the wrong idea.
“And let’s be clear: I’m your uncle’s wife now. You’d do well to

respect that.”
Alden took a deep breath, visibly wrestling with the storm of emotions inside him. “I heard about your family drama. Luna and Kimberly are close friends, you know. We’re all family here —can’t you just let it go, for my sake? Why make things so ugly?”
Just as she suspected, he’d show up just to say something like that.
Kaia’s laugh was sharp, humorless. “Sorry, Alden, but this is my business, not yours. If you think I’m being too harsh, you’re welcome to get a law degree and represent her in court. How does that sound?
“Because, frankly, your ‘sake‘ doesn’t carry much weight with me.”
She paused, her voice dropping to a mocking lilt. “And let’s skip the bad jokes, alright? Otherwise, you will make yourself… well, utterly ridiculous.”
With that, Kaia grabbed Alyssa’s arm, and they strode off together.
Alden felt a bit frustrated. He didn’t expect that she would hate him so much.
Now he’s got it. He was a scoundrel in her eyes.

What did she mean that it had nothing to do with him? He only stepped in because he was worried about her reputation. But clearly, she couldn’t care less.

Just then, Lucien emerged from the study.
“Uncle Lucien!” Alyssa called out brightly.
Kaia thought Alyssa was about to spill the beans and shook her head at her.
To her, Alden was nothing more than a passing nuisance, and there was no need to upset Lucien over him.
Lucien caught the exchange of glances between the two women and chuckled, “What’s with the secret code, you two?”
Kaia gave Alyssa a playful pinch. “Nothing. She’s just missed you, that’s all.”
Alyssa’s mouth twitched, barely suppressing a grin. “Yup! Totally missed you, Uncle Lucien.”
Missed your generous pocket money, more like.
Allen came downstairs, his voice casual but warm. “Alyssa, isn’t your mom due back soon?”

Alyssa gave a small nod. “Yeah, I think so.”

Allen knew better than to pry. The tension between Alyssa and her mother was no secret, so he let it drop.
Kaia squeezed Alyssa’s hand gently, and Alyssa managed a faint smile. “I’m fine.”
But was she?
Her mother was about to walk down the aisle for the fifth time.
Truth be told, Alyssa had long since grown numb to it.

Sally’s trial wrapped up quickly. When the first verdict came down and she was sentenced to the maximum penalty, Kaia held the verdict document in her hands and finally felt like a weight had lifted off her chest.
I did my best, Mom.
Outside the courthouse, Kimberly’s face was a mask of anguish, tears streaking down her cheeks.
The moment she saw Kaia, she lost control. She lunged toward her, aiming straight for her face.
With just one glance from Lucien, the bodyguards at his side

“You heartless, despicable little wretch!” Kimberly shrieked, her voice raw with venom. “How do you sleep at night? My mom
was so good to you, and this is how you repay her? You’ll pay for this!”
Tobias, standing nearby, didn’t hesitate. He slapped Kimberly hard, twice, the sound echoing in the tense air.
“Shut your mouth!”
He turned to Lucien with an apologetic, nervous smile. “Lucien, don’t mind her. She’s young and doesn’t know when to hold her tongue.”
Lucien’s eyes glinted with cold disdain.
“Young? She’s well over twenty. Adults must answer for their reckless actions.”
Tobias flinched, his face paling. “I’ll send her abroad tomorrow, How’s that?”
“Abroad?” Lucien’s tone was deceptively calm, but his words carried a chilling edge. “Sounds like a vacation. I know a better place to build some character–a remote village, far from the comforts of city life. What do you think, Tobias?”
Tobias knew Kimberly had crossed a line she shouldn’t have.

Kimberly’s eyes widened in panic, her voice trembling. “Dad, are you insane? I’m not going to some backwater village! This is kidnapping!”
Tobias slapped her again, his voice low and menacing. “Enough! Keep this up, and you won’t live to see your mother out of prison.”
Kimberly’s defiance crumbled into sobs, her body shaking.
The threat of a harsh life in the countryside paled in comparison to her father’s chilling warning.
She didn’t want to suffer, but more than that, she didn’t want to die.
The day Kimberly was shipped off to that remote village, Tobias‘ company stock plummeted./
