Chapter 21 The dinner

Alden’s forehead wrinkled up. He took a screenshot and sent if to his group chat: [Something wrong with WhatsApp? You guys getting my messages? I tried texting someone and got this.]

The rich kids who’d been blowing up the chat went dead silent.

Alden’s frown got deeper.

Alden was stunned.

Blocked? What right did Kaia have to block me?

When Joanne called to invite Kaia for dinner tomorrow, Kaia already had plans with Jude, so she turned it down.

But Joanne was incredibly enthusiastic and moved it to the next day. Kaia couldn’t say no this time and had to agree.

“Lucien, don’t be mad at that brat. I’ll make sure to keep him in line,” Zane said in Allen’s study.

Right then, Joanne rolled in with coffee. “Allen, Lucien, I just talked to Kaia. She’s got a work dinner tomorrow, so she’s coming over the next day instead.”

“Sure, sounds good.” Lucien remained unfazed.

He stood up and said coldly, “Dad, Zane, Joanne. I have another appointment later, so I’ll head out now. I’ll be back the day after tomorrow for dinner, but I won’t make it tomorrow.”

Allen had planned to keep Lucien around to talk about his blind date thing, but…

He waved him off. “Whatever, just go. But don’t drink too much at those business things–it’s bad for your stomach.”

Jude had a dinner scheduled with Julian Rhodes–the man heading the Graves Group’s acquisition of Ease Electronics. Whoever impressed Julian would win the right to represent the deal.

The dinner meeting was scheduled at the Prosperity Hotel. Jude brought two lawyers from his team, Kaia and Warren.

Knowing that Kaia had stomach problems, he specifically brought Warren along to handle the drinking.

From Graves Group’s side, besides Julian, there were two executives from the investment department and a deputy director from finance, all core members of Graves Group’s leadership team.

“Mr. Rhodes, I’ve heard so much about you,” Jude greeted warmly, shaking Julian’s hand before introducing Kaia and Warren with confidence.

Despite feeling extremely nervous, Kaia managed to maintain her composure. “Nice to meet you, Mr. Rhodes. I’m Kaia.”

Jude frowned inwardly at her too–brief introduction, then naturally stepped in to sing her praises.

“Don’t be fooled by her youth, Mr. Rhodes–Kaia graduated top of her class from the country’s best university, went on to earn her master’s degree, and is already making a name for herself. She’s just starting out now, but she’ll be up for mid–level next

year.

“Young and accomplished,” Julian said with a light nod and a chuckle.

Later, Jude and Julian dominated the dinner conversation while Alvin Blake from Graves Group’s investment department smiled and waved over a server. “Everyone drinks, right?”

His gaze deliberately settled on Kaia as he grinned. “Can Ms. Domont handle alcohol?”

Jude was about to tell him that Kaia couldn’t drink, but then he heard Kaia speak up confidently, “I’m not much of a drinker, but I’m so excited to meet all you executives today. I just hop won’t hold my low tolerance against me later.”

After the toast, Alvin turned to Kaia with a knowing smile. “Ms. Domont, I really should give our beautiful lawyer here a proper toast.”

Kaia picked up her glass right away. “Mr. Blake, I should be the one toasting you.”

She took a big drink, and Alvin totally loved how direct she was. “Wohoo, Mr. Halston! Ms. Domont is quite something!”

“Hello? Yes, we’re having dinner with the people from Vanguard Law Firm. That’s right, at Prosperity Hotel. Are you coming over?” Julian shot to his feet. “You’re already at the entrance of Prosperity Hotel? I’ll come get you right away!”
