Chapter 225 Late–Night Lessons

Lucien stepped out of the kitchen. “Kaia, this is Kevin Harrison, a senior from my study–abroad days. He’s back in town, so I invited him for dinner.”
Kaia paused. It was the first time Lucien had brought a friend home since their marriage. So Kevin must be someone special to him.
She told herself to take it seriously.
Smiling at Kevin, she said, “Mr. Harrison, please make yourself at home. I’ll just pop upstairs to put some things away.”
“Go ahead,” Kevin replied.
Once Kaia was upstairs, Kevin leaned toward Lucien with a teasing grin.
“Mr. Graves, am I the first, besides Kaia, to taste your cooking?”
Lucien shot him a sideways glance. “Don’t hold back later. Use your lawyerly expertise to cheer her up. Got it?”
Kevin, a renowned attorney and legal consultant for Graves Group’s overseas branch, had been roped into being Kaia’s impromptu therapist.
He grimaced. “Got it, Your Highness.”

Kaia didn’t linger. She touched up her makeup, changed outfits, and came back downstairs.
Lucien gave her a resentful look.
Why’s she getting all dressed up for another guy? She never goes this extra for me.
A twinge of jealousy stirred in Lucien’s chest.
At the dinner table, Kaia picked up the ladle. “Mr. Harrison, let me serve you some soup.”
“No, no, I’ll do it,” Kevin said, glancing at Lucien. “I don’t dare trouble you. Someone’s glare is about to tear me apart.”
Kaia followed his gaze to Lucien, who was calmly peeling shrimp, his expression unruffled.
“And,” Kevin added, taking the bowl with a hearty laugh, “Mr. Harrison’s too formal. We’re friends here. Just call me Kevin.”
Kaia smiled, “Alright, Kevin.”
“Great.” Kevin raised a brow at Lucien. “Your wife’s way better at this than you.” He paused, then added, “But Kaia, your husband’s no slouch. He was a legend in law school!”
“Law school?” Kaia was stunned. She hadn’t known Lucien

studied law.

“You didn’t know?” Kevin grinned. “Your husband’s got a dual degree in finance and law. If he didn’t have a family empire to run, I’d have chained him to the legal field!”
“Let’s eat,” Lucien said, placing peeled shrimp on Kaia’s plate. “It’s getting cold.”
Kaia looked at him, amazed.
Is this what a low–key genius looks like?
Lucien’s casual confidence made her a little jealous.
Back in law school, she’d been swamped with no time to breathe, yet Lucien had juggled a dual degree with ease.
Lucien didn’t hold back, praising himself, “I’m kind of a big deal. But in law, Kevin’s the real expert. Ask him anything you’re
stuck on.”
Kaia bit into a shrimp, sensing something. She nudged Lucien. “Did you invite Kevin because…”
“Yeah.” Lucien wiped his hands. “He’s got experience with losing
cases.”
Kevin glared at him. “Lucien, you…”

Kaia went quiet, warmth flooding her heart.
She’d been down about botching the case.
So Lucien went out of his way to invite Kevin home, cook dinner, and gently guide her back on track.
He always spoiled her quietly like this.
Then, Kaia picked Kevin’s brain on countless issues, soaking up knowledge like a sponge.
Outside the floor–to–ceiling windows, the night deepened.
The coffee table’s pot was refilled three times, and Kaia’s notebook was crammed with a dozen pages of notes.
Lucien finally couldn’t take it anymore, tapping the table. “You two, hungry yet?”
Kevin glanced at the clock, startled to see it was one in the morning. “Crap, I’ve got a hearing at nine…”
He scrambled to his feet.
“Kevin, see you next time,” Kaia said with a bright smile, too engrossed in new ideas to feel down.
Lucien walked Kevin out. When he returned, Kaia was gone.

He found her in the study.
Her eyes shone as she muttered, “If a client hides key evidence leading to a loss, theoretically…”
“Theoretically, it’s bedtime.” Lucien plucked the pen from her hand and scooped her up in his arms.
Kaia looped her arms around his neck, laughing, “Honey, thanks for today. And for cooking.”
Lucien snorted softly. “You didn’t call me ‘honey‘ when he was
here.”
Kaia blinked, caught off guard.
She was used to calling him Lucien. She hadn’t realized he’d be upset about it.
“Honey, my bad. Want me to call Kevin back so I can say it in front of him?”
“No need.” Lucien’s gaze darkened, a faint smile playing on his lips. “I prefer hearing it in bed.”
Kaia was speechless.
This guy can’t stay serious for more than two seconds.
Just when her emotions were about to overflow, Lucien turned

Kaia’s gut told her trouble was coming. She tried to squirm free, but he held her tighter.
“Lucien! Put me down!”
He let out a low laugh and kept walking. “Too late, Mrs. Graves.”
