Chapter 264 A Shocking Betrayal
Lucien’s words landed like a sledgehammer, shattering the fragile composure of Zane, Joanne, and Alden.
Alden shook his head violently, his face a mask of stunned disbelief. “No way. Are you saying I’m not Nic’s father?”

His voice cracked, barely a whisper as he repeated. “I’m not his father?” The words trembled with a raw, wounded edge.
“You’re telling me… I’ve been betrayed?” Alden’s voice broke, a mix of hurt and incredulity.
Joanne lost all control, her voice rising to a near–hysterical screech. “That’s impossible! Absolutely impossible! Lucien, I know you worship the ground your wife walks on, but how dare you make up lies just to protect her?
“How can you live with yourself, slandering your own family like this?”
Lucien shot her a withering glance, a sardonic smirk on his lips. “I can live just fine, Joanne. I’m not the one who betrayed Alden.”
Kaia stood silently by his side. She hadn’t expected Lucien to be so brutally sharp–tongued.
Now, staying quiet was her best move. She’d said nothing, and

they’d already been trying to pin the blame on her.

And if she ever opened her mouth, Joanne would latch on like a rabid dog and never let go.

Luna, meanwhile, was holed up in a dingy, remote warehouse. She’d ditched her phone long ago, terrified the police might track her down.
To pull off this elaborate charade, she’d hired someone to stage her kidnapping, and that accomplice was already halfway across the globe.
Luna had made up her mind: though she was Nicholas‘ mother, she couldn’t let Alden discover the child wasn’t his.
Her only option was to get rid of the baby.
She stuffed Nicholas into a trash bin, then walked away without a backward glance.
She figured no one would ever know. Later, she could pin the blame on the “kidnappers,” claiming they’d taken the child.
No one would suspect her as the true culprit.
As for the paternity test, with the child gone, she’d deny everything and blame the whole mess on Lucien and Kaia.

Luna thought her self–directed drama was foolproof–until it unraveled.
Just as she turned her back, Tony appeared, his face twisted with fury as he scooped the child out of the garbage.
He couldn’t fathom how a mother could be so heartless as to
discard her own flesh and blood.
Tony found a safe spot, gave the baby a bath, and fed him some formula. Then he dialed Kaia’s number.
“Hello?” Kaia answered.
“It’s Tony. I just found my kid in a trash bin. His mother left him there. What do I do? Should I call the cops?”
Kaia froze, the plot twist hitting her like a freight train.
“Yes, call the police and let them handle it. Make sure to give them the mother’s name–they’ll take it from there.”
Lucien leaned in, his voice low. “Who’s that?”
Kaia shrugged lightly. “It’s the client I told you about yesterday.”
Lucien nodded, his expression unreadable. “Stay out of it for
now.”

He turned to Joanne, his voice as hard as steel. “Joanne, out of respect for Zane, I’ve treated you like family. But if you keep disrespecting my wife, don’t expect me to play nice anymore.
“You’ve got one chance to apologize to Kaia. Once the truth comes out, it won’t be so easy to make amends.”
His words were a blatant warning, sharp and unyielding.
Zane, already believing what Lucien had said, frowned at Joanne. “You’re an elder–how can you talk like that? No matter what, Kaia wouldn’t be behind a kidnapping. Apologize now.”
Joanne’s face twisted with indignation. They had the nerve to accuse her daughter of lying, question her grandson’s birth, and still expect her to apologize? Her hands shook with anger.
The injustice of it all made her blood boil.
“No way! I’d rather die than apologize!” she spat, her voice trembling with defiance.
Kaia tugged gently at Lucien’s arm. “Let it go. If she doesn’t want to apologize, so be it.”
She didn’t care about Joanne’s grudging words.
After all, reality would teach her a lesson soon enough.
Fifteen minutes later, the phone rang.

A police officer’s voice came through, steady but grave. “We’ve found your grandson.”
Joanne lunged forward, her face alight with desperate hope. “Where? Where’s my grandson?”
“He was found in a trash bin. The person who found him says
the child’s mother is the one who abandoned him.”
Joanne shook her head, stunned. “That’s impossible!”
Alden’s shoulders slumped as the pieces fell into place.
“Let’s go to the station,” he said quietly, his voice heavy with resignation.

When Lucien and Kaia got home, Lucien gently pinched her cheek, his touch tender.
“I’m sorry you had to go through that today.”
Kaia blinked, a playful glint in her eyes. “Oh, I’m fine. That call from Tony? Talk about a plot twist.
“But Luna… How could she be so cruel to a baby? To just throw him away like that?”

Alden, Zane, and Joanne arrived at the police station.
Allen didn’t come. He had taken two heart pills and gone straight to bed. He knew what was about to happen in there would only add to his stress.
At the station, Alden saw Tony holding the baby and immediately understood everything.
Even at just eight months old, Nicholas was the spitting image of Tony–those same eyes, nose, and lips. There was no mistaking the resemblance.
Zane and Joanne stared, their faces ashen with rage and betrayal, teetering on the edge of collapse.
They’d poured their hearts into raising this child for eight months, only to learn he was the product of an affair. Joanne, who’d flown overseas countless times to care for Luna during her pregnancy, felt her world tilt, nearly fainting from the shock.
They could scarcely believe that the daughter they’d raised with such love had betrayed their son so callously.
