“Seriously? You left me completely in the dark!” she said with a teasing pout.

Kaia gave a sheepish smile. “I know, I know–my bad. I didn’t mean to! I swear I’ll make it up to you.”

Truthfully, she hadn’t lied.

In the beginning, her relationship with Lucien had been on uncertain footing–she genuinely didn’t know how things would turn out.

It was already 6:30 p.m. She should’ve been starving by now— and even if she wasn’t, surely the baby was.

“Come on, just have a little,” Lucien urged gently, sliding a bowl of soup toward her.

Kaia barely glanced at it before a sudden wave of nausea hit her. She fought it off, took one reluctant spoonful–and bolted to the bathroom.
