In the final stretch of her pregnancy, things became much harder for Kaia. She took her maternity leave and stayed home to await the twins‘ arrival.
Lucien moved all his work back home too.
He often accompanied her on short walks, massaged her legs when cramps hit, and on restless nights, he’d pull her into his arms like a fussy little baby and read to her softly from a storybook.
A week before her due date, Kaia woke in the middle of the night again.
“What’s wrong?” Lucien asked immediately, sitting up.
Kaia shook her head. “I just need to use the bathroom.”
Lucien got up and helped her to the toilet. “Go ahead.”
Even though he was about to become the father of her children, Kaia still wasn’t used to doing certain things in front of him.
Holding onto the handrail, she frowned. “Get out. I can’t pee with you watching.”

Lucien pressed his lips together, trying not to smile. “I won’t look.”
He turned around slowly–dramatically–and even gave a little
whistle.
“Lucien!” Kaia huffed and kicked him lightly.
“Alright, alright. I’ll wait outside. Just call me when you’re done, okay?”
“Okay.”
In truth, she didn’t really need to pee–her stomach just felt tight and uncomfortable. After sitting for a bit, she came out.
Lucien was right there, ready to help her back to bed. He
eased her onto her side and tucked the blanket over her gently, pressing a kiss to her forehead.
“Try to sleep, honey.”
Around six in the morning, Kaia woke again and checked her phone. As she turned over, she noticed Lucien hadn’t moved from his position.
“Lucien?”

He blinked, clearly awake.

“You didn’t sleep at all last night, did you?” she asked, noticing the red rims of his tired eyes.
“I slept. Just… lightly,” Lucien murmured.
He didn’t dare to sleep too deeply these days—not when he knew how close they were to meeting their babies. His only thought was keeping her safe. Keeping them all safe.

Three days before Kaia’s due date, Lucien had everything ready.
He packed the maternity bag himself and brought two carefully selected maternity matrons along to the hospital–only the best for his wife and their babies.
Alyssa also came to keep Kaia company, while Kayla, unable to fly back in time, called in on video to cheer her up.
Just as Kaia was settling into the call, a familiar face suddenly popped in from the side–half of it, anyway.
Calvin.
“Hi, Kaia! Where’s Lucien? Let me talk to him,” he said with an
3ll–too–smug grin.

Kaia blinked in surprise.
Wait… are they back together?

Before Calvin could get another word out, a loud smack rang out–Kayla had slapped him.
“Ow! That hurt!” he whined, rubbing his arm.
“Good!” Kayla huffed. “I’m video–calling my bestie! Who told you to butt in?”
“Sorry, I just miss Lucien…” Calvin mumbled, not looking the least bit sorry.
Truth was, he just wanted to show off their reconciliation to
Lucien.
Kaia and Alyssa were both stunned.
Alyssa leaned closer to the screen, whispering, “Kayla… what on earth did you do to him?”
She really meant to ask how Kayla had tamed Calvin, but didn’t dare say it out loud.
Kayla just gave a sweet smile, completely ignoring Calvin like he was a background prop. “Anyway, Kaia, I’m waiting for good 47

Once the call ended, Kaia turned to Alyssa with a grin. “Looks like we’ll be attending Kayla’s wedding soon.”
Alyssa chuckled. “I think so too.”
Off to the side, Lucien gave a tight smile and silently removed Calvin from their four–person group chat–just in case he tried to show off again.

Lucien had wanted to be by Kaia’s side in the delivery room— but she’d gently turned him down.
“Don’t worry,” she said with a smile. “I want to face this on my own. Just wait outside for me and the babies, okay?”
Lucien pressed his lips together, clearly wanting to protest, but held back. He didn’t want to throw her off during such a critical
moment.
“…Alright then.”
Kaia gave him one last reassuring look. “Wait for me.”
She didn’t want him to see her at her weakest. She’d always 577
preferred him seeing her at her best.

Outside the delivery room, Lucien waited with Alyssa. Landon had stopped by, and Allen had called several times to check in.
Landon cracked a grin. “Congrats, Lucien. You’re about to be a dad. With your family fortune, two boys would’ve been perfect to pass it all down.”
Lucien shot him a frosty glare. “You looking to get beat up?”
Landon rubbed his nose and wisely shut up.
As the hours ticked by, Lucien–who had kept his composure until now–started to visibly lose patience.
“…Why is it taking so long?”
“Lucien, every woman’s different,” Landon replied. “Some take longer than others. Relax. Kaia’s gonna be fine.”
Her prenatal checkups had always been overseen by top specialists. Everything had been greenlit. Still, for Lucien, the wait was agonizing.
He closed his eyes and tried to steady his breath.
Sensing the tension, Alyssa quickly changed the subject. “Uncle Lucien, have you picked out names yet?”

“Yeah,” he said. “If it’s a girl, her name will be Cecilia Graves.
We’ll call her Cici.”
Alyssa smiled. “What about the boy?”
“Richard Graves,” Lucien replied. “Kaia picked it.”
“Cute! Got a nickname?”
“Richie,” ” he said. “Kaia said it sounds like ‘rich‘–might bring us some good luck.”
Alyssa chuckled. It did sound like something Kaia would say.
Just then, the delivery room doors swung open.
A nurse stepped out, gently cradling two newborns in her arms.
“The baby boy weighs five pounds eight ounces–he’s the older one. The baby girl is five pounds five ounces. Congratulations! You’ve got healthy boy–girl twins!”
Lucien’s eyes flicked to the tiny babies, but his voice trembled slightly as he asked, “How’s my wife?”
