Chapter 70 Find the Truth
When she saw Jude’s name flashing on the screen, a wave of calm washed over her frayed nerves.

Meanwhile, Lucien sat there, his fingers wrapped around his phone. He’d witnessed the whole thing of Kaia liking and then unliking the post.
She finally saw it. But why did she unlike it? Is she angry?
Before Lucien could spiral any further about Kaia’s reaction, his phone buzzed again.
It was Allen.
“Lucien,” his father said, voice already laced with curiosity, “you found a girlfriend?”
Within the entire Graves family, Allen rarely dared to meddle in Lucien’s personal life.
Not because he didn’t want to―he just couldn’t.
Years ago, he’d tried the usual matchmaking tricks. He’d even gone as far as arranging for a woman to wait in Lucien’s room.
Lucien had responded by catching the next international flight out… and staying overseas for five whole years.
To the public, it looked like he’d gone abroad to expand the Graves family’s business empire. But those in the know understood the truth: Lucien had fled. Plain and simple.
Ever since then, Allen had walked on eggshells around his youngest son when it came to relationships.
So when Lucien made an Instagram post—a public one, no less- about having a girlfriend, it sent shockwaves through the entire Graves clan.
Allen wasted no time. “Is it serious?”
Lucien didn’t even hesitate.
“Yeah, Dad. I’ve got a girlfriend. We’re getting married next month.”
Allen sucked in a sharp breath. “Next month? That soon?”
Lucien leaned back in his chair, perfectly calm.
“Can’t wait. I’m not getting any younger. Thirty-three’s the perfect age to settle down.”
Allen was stunned.
His mind scrambled to catch up. Just five years ago, he’d practically begged Lucien to settle down. He’d used those same words-“You’re not getting any younger.”
And back then, Lucien had responded by fleeing the country.
Now, out of nowhere, he was saying he was ready to tie the knot… with the same excuse.
Has he finally come to his senses?
Allen cleared his throat, slipping into his most fatherly tone.
“Listen, I don’t have many expectations for your future wife. As long as she’s well-mannered and presentable, that’s enough.
“Doesn’t matter if her family’s background is ordinary-we’re not looking for some flashy alliance. What matters is that you love her.”
For Allen, there was nothing more reassuring than knowing Lucien had genuinely fallen for someone.
Lucien’s voice softened, a smile tugging at the corners of his lips.
“Yeah, Dad. I love her.”
Allen’s heart soared. “That’s wonderful! So when are you
bringing her home to meet the family?”
Lucien paused, then answered smoothly, “She’s shy. I don’t want to overwhelm her. How about next month?”
After the wedding, he’d make the introductions.
Allen, completely unaware of the full story, simply nodded along. He assumed Lucien’s girlfriend was just a little timid— and that Lucien, for once, was being patient.
After a few more words, they hung up.
Lucien’s smile faded almost instantly. He picked up his phone and dialed Jason.
“Jason, how was her visit today?” he asked.
“Everything went smoothly,” the butler replied. “But… Ms. Domont seemed a little off. Quiet. Kinda down in the dumps.”
Lucien’s brow furrowed. “Down in the dumps?”
“Yeah. She looked distracted. I had to call her name twice before she heard me.”
Lucien leaned back in his chair, expression darkening as he fell into thought.
What’s bothering her?
It didn’t feel like it was about me… but maybe it was.
Or was it something else? Alden, maybe?
“…Got it,” he said, his voice low.
After hanging up on Jude, Kaia stared at the group chat for the M&A investment project. She fought the urge to vent her frustration right there and then. Instead, she dialed Julian’s number.
tone
Julian had just returned to his office. In a cold tone, he asked, “Who’s this?”
Kaia greeted him politely, “Mr. Rhodes. I’m Kaia Domont from Vanguard Law Firm.”
Julian raised an eyebrow slightly. “Ah, Ms. Domont. What can I do for you?”
Calling the project’s overall in-charge directly was a bit of an overstep for Kaia.
Even though Julian sensed there was something between Kaia and their president, he hated it when people bypassed proper
channels, whether it was his subordinates or partners.
Kaia didn’t flinch at his cold demeanor.
“Mr. Rhodes,” she said calmly, “someone from your team told our director that I have a bad reputation and a history of misconduct and suggested I be replaced. Do you know anything about that?”
Earlier, right after Alex landed, he informed Jude that someone from the Graves Group had reported Kaia for having an
inappropriate relationship.
So, for smooth cooperation, without Jude’s approval, Alex removed Kaia from the project.
With Jude’s approval, Kaia decided to go straight to Julian, the person in charge of this project at Graves Group, to find out who had made those remarks.
Since Alex would never tell her, this was the only way she could fight for the truth.
Julian was shocked. “Really? I had no idea.”
Although he was annoyed at Kaia for complaining to him, he was more worried that there was a problem within his team.
If Lucien found out, he didn’t even want to think about the
consequences.
“Ms. Domont, I absolutely trust your character. I’ll look into it right away to find out who’s spreading these rumors and give you an explanation. How does that sound?”
Kaia had a lot more to say, but she never expected Julian to side with her instead of protecting his subordinates.
“That’s okay. With your words, Mr. Rhodes, I’m relieved.”
After hanging up, Julian received a message from Lucien: [Julian, is there something wrong with the Ease Electronics merger and acquisition project?]
Julian thought Kaia had complained to Lucien,
This Kaia had once again surprised him. So she was really that important to their president!
Julian remembered the Instagram post Lucien had shared the day before. A chill ran down his spine.
He reopened the post and zoomed in. Faintly, a figure was visible on the glass of the window.
It looked very much like Kaia!
Panicked, he quickly replied: [Mr. Graves, there’s no problem.
I’ll immediately find out who spread the rumors about Ms.
Domont and give her a proper explanation!]
