Anneliese already held undeniable proof of his betrayal. One storm had barely cleared before another loomed over her.

Since flying back to the country, Zacharias had not even rested. Trouble hit him one after another, and for the first time, he found himself falling behind.

But his mind was set.

He wanted Anneliese. He would never accept a divorce.

With a hand pressed to his temples, he seized Coral’s wrist and spoke in a voice edged with steel.

Come with me.

Coral fought against his grip. Where are we going? Zacharias, stop pulling me, you’re hurting me!

She caught the cold fury in his eyes, and dread tightened in her chest. Her body resisted, but he overpowered her and forced her into the car.

The second he pulled out of the driveway, Zacharias called Jackie. His voice was low and sharp.

Why was I at Madison Villa?

You were drunk last night, Coral called me because she was worried. I gave her the address, and she rushed over. Mr. Shaw, you mistook her for Mrs. Shaw and refused to let her go

Zachariashands clenched on the steering wheel. Jackie, if you want to quit, then do it now!

Mr. Shaw, I promise this won’t happen again,Jackie stammered, shaking on the other end of the line.

This is the last time. Now, tell me about what I asked. Where’s Anne staying?

I tracked her down. Mrs. Shaw is living in Maple Bay, in the condo she inherited from her grandmother.

Zacharias exhaled, his features softening for only a moment before hardening again.

Keep digging. I want to know if she’s spoken to a divorce lawyer, what she’s been doing, who she’s met, and where she’s gone. I want everything. And most of all, I want to know what’s happening between her and Jonathan.”

Anneliese had sworn nothing had happened between her and Jonathan.

But she could not erase the shameful dream that haunted herthrowing herself into his arms, calling him handsome, kissing him with a desperation she could not explain.

Her face flushed with heat. She felt dirty, weak, and unworthy of a man as disciplined and untouchable as Jonathan Fullbuster.

That morning, she packed the breakfast she had made into a paper bag, carried it upstairs, and hesitated outside his door. After a long moment, she gently hooked it onto the knob.

She planned to leave quietly, take the elevator, and text him so he would know his meal was waiting.

That way, she could avoid the unbearable awkwardness of facing him.

But just as she bent down to sneak away, the door clicked open.

Startled, she spun around. Jonathan stood before her, already dressed.

His white shirt was buttoned all the way to the collar, a dark blue tie perfectly knotted at his throat. A black leather armband wrapped neatly around his sleeve, and his pressed black slacks fit his tall frame with military precision. Every detail radiated restraint and authority.

He lifted a brow. Why do you look so suspicious? You’re creeping around like a thief at dawn.

Her cheeks burned. I’m not a suspect! I justI was rushing for school. I didn’t know if you were awake, so I left your breakfast at the door. But since you’re already up, you should eat it while it’s still warm. I have to go.

She turned to flee, but his voice stopped her.

Wait.”

The word came out calm, almost casual, yet it struck her like a command.

She froze, forcing a strained smile, terrified that he had seen through her.

Jonathan picked up the bag and said evenly, There’s a charity auction tonight. Your ring will be one of the items. Do you want to attend?

Her eyes widened. Do I have to?

You’re the owner. You need to sign the papers and complete the donation.

Alright. She nodded quickly. Thencan I leave now?

Yes.

The moment he said it, Anneliese bolted down the hall.
