Alexander glanced at her. “Hmph, I’ll test you later on what you’ve learned these past weeks. If you don’t pass, you’ll see if I can keep my voice down.”
Anneliese pretended to be scared and pulled her neck in.
From behind came Gianna’s voice. “Anneliese, your car is in the parking lot, right? I asked my family to send a car to pick us up. I’ll take Prof. Clocke and the seniors home first. The car is already waiting outside at the exit.”
The parking lot and the exit were not in the same direction.
“Then, Prof. Clocke, let’s follow Gianna,” George said as he pushed his suitcase and turned toward the exit.
Anneliese said, “Prof. Clocke, let me drive you instead. It’s been a while since I saw Mrs. Clocke. I want to visit her.”
“But can your car fit so many people?” Gianna asked.
Anneliese looked at her. “I rented a minivan. It can fit everyone.”
She had come to pick them up and had asked Jessica to rent a van for her. Her Maserati had been taken by Jessica.
“I see. I was overthinking it. Anneliese, you’re really thoughtful.” Gianna smiled a little, looking embarrassed.
Alexander said to her, “Gianna, you’re not going in the same direction. Go home first. We’ll let Anne drive us. Remember to meet us at noon at Oak Haven so we can see the investor together.”
“Okay, got it, Prof. Clocke.”
Gianna nodded, then suddenly turned to Anneliese.
“For lunch, will you be going too?”
Anneliese froze. Although Gianna sounded casual, she felt like the question carried a sharp edge. It was as if Gianna were questioning what right she had to attend the lunch.
She stayed silent, but Quinton said, “Anne has already joined the lab officially. Of course she’s going. Isn’t that right, Prof. Clocke?”

Alexander nodded. “Anne will come with us at noon.”
Seeing the mood turn awkward, Gianna walked over to Anneliese and took her hand.

“Anneliese, don’t be upset. I didn’t mean anything by it. We just met and didn’t even get to talk before we split up. Now that I know you’ll be there at lunch, I feel better. I’ll bring you a gift.”
She smiled sweetly and spoke in a friendly tone.
Anneliese smiled back. “You’re too polite. I’m not upset.”
“Good, then that’s settled. I’ll head off first. Bye, Prof. Clocke, seniors.” She waved and left with light steps.
Up ahead, a man who looked like a chauffeur walked up to greet her. He bowed respectfully, took her bag and suitcase, and the two left together.
Anneliese and Alexander walked toward the parking lot.
Clement spoke. “Gianna can be a bit blunt. Anne, don’t take it to heart.”
George said, “Anne and Gianna are about the same age. I remember four or five years ago, Anne already acted so mature and calm.”
Liam added, “Anne is too calm sometimes. I often forget she’s much younger than us. Gianna acts more like a girl her age.”
Anneliese only listened and stayed quiet.
Some of the seniors lived in the school dorms, and some had homes near campus. On the way back, Clement didn’t let Anneliese drive. He took the wheel himself and sent her to sit in the
back with Alexander.
Alexander didn’t feel tired. He started quizzing Anneliese right away.
The questions went on from the car ride all the way into his house. It only stopped when Angela urged him to change clothes.
Luckily, Alexander was satisfied with her answers and even praised her.
