Anneliese had never mentioned Jonathan in front of Alexander. Could Jonathan have mentioned me to Prof. Clocke before?

Her mind flickered back to Gianna’s earlier accusationthat she had used Jonathan’s connections to sneak into the laband a pang of guilt struck her.

Is that really the case? Could Prof. Clocke already know about my relationship with Jonathan?

Her gaze darted anxiously between Alexander and Jonathan, uncertainty clouding her thoughts.

It wasn’t until Alexander spoke to clarify things that relief slowly settled over her. The last time there was an accident at AeroAir, didn’t you help solve the drone blood delivery problem? You did an excellent job.

So, he hadn’t known about her and Jonathan, after all.

Anneliese exhaled sharply, a mixture of relief and surprise washing over her. Prof. Clocke, how did you come to know about that incident?she asked.

Alexander chuckled. How could I not? That night, Mr. Fullbuster sent me the video and commended me for training such a capable student.”

What? Her shock deepened. She glanced at Jonathan, her clear eyes wide with astonishment. He had never mentioned this to her.

Then, she remembered. The emails she had sent to Alexander initially went unanswered. The first reply had come only the day after she had assisted Jonathan.

Only now did she understandthe reason Alexander had forgiven her so readily back then was because Jonathan had spoken on her behalf.

Realization dawned, and she said softly, Thank you, Mr. Fullbuster, for believing in me. Allow me to toast you.

She poured herself a glass of wine and raised it toward Jonathan.

Jonathan already had a full glass.

Earlier, when Anneliese and the others had stepped out, Clement and Quinton had tried to toast him, but he had politely declined each time.

Quinton, seeing Anneliese offer the toast, tensed. He worried Jonathan might refuse again, embarrassing her.

He was about to intervene when, for the first time that evening, Jonathan lifted his glass.

However, instead of clinking glasses with her, he arched an eyebrow and smiled, Ms. Claude, you expecting me to stand too? Relax. Just sitno need to be so tense.”

His gaze was playful, almost teasing, as if to say, Mrs. Fullbuster, you certainly know how to put on a show.

Though his tone was gentle, a subtle distance remained, a quiet reminder that they weren’t entirely intimate.

Anneliese felt her cheeks flush. She sat slowly, clinked her glass against his, and tipped her head back, drinking it in one gulp.

The liquor proved stronger than she anticipated. She choked, coughing violently.

Covering her mouth, her face a vivid shade of crimson from both embarrassment and the burn of alcohol, she tried to recover.

Are you okay?Quinton immediately reached over to pat her back and poured her a gl.

warm water.

Jonathan started to reach out as well but paused, aware that their relationship wasn’t public.

I’m fine, Quinton,Anneliese said, glancing up only to meet Jonathan’s halfsmiling eyes.

He took a sip of his own drink and addressed Alexander, The lab’s atmosphere is excellent. Everyone helps each other out.

Though he spoke to Alexander, who sat beside him, a shiver ran down Anneliese’s spine.

Quinton, just sit downshe murmured, quickly waving him off.

Alexander, oblivious to Jonathan’s reaction, continued smiling warmly.

Most of these students have been working together since their first or second year. They know each other well. Gianna only joined a few months ago, but the seniors have been keeping an eye on her.

Since sitting down, Gianna had remained silent. Everyone assumed she was still upset about what had happened earlier and didn’t give it much thought.
