Quinton interjected, “Yeah, and Mr. Fullbuster was just giving Anne a ride. You’re overthinking it, Gianna.”
The other seniors nodded in agreement.
Gianna rolled her eyes and lowered her gaze, feeling a wave of exhaustion wash over her.
What she didn’t realize was that Anneliese’s talent and competence had already won over Clement and the others five years prior.
Even if Jonathan occasionally seemed to show her a bit of favoritism, everyone deep down considered it only natural.
Meanwhile, Jonathan instructed Zion to leave first.
He opened the passenger door for Anneliese, who bent gracefully to slip inside. Once she was settled, he closed the door, circled to the driver’s side, and slid into his seat.
He buckled his seatbelt but didn’t start the car immediately. Instead, he sat in silence, his eyes fixed on her.
“Are you upset?”
Anneliese felt a flicker of irritation and shot him a playful glare.
“Why didn’t you tell me you invested in the lab?”
Jonathan reached out, brushing her flushed cheek gently with his fingertip. “I wanted it to be a surprise. But judging by that look, I guess I startled you instead?”
“Not startled, exactly… I just–did Prof. Clocke let me rejoin the lab because of you?”
That question weighed most heavily on her mind.
Jonathan started the engine slowly, responding in a calm, measured voice.
“Of course not. All I did was send Prof. Clocke the video of you assisting with the drone design that day. I didn’t mention anything else.”
The video had been his way of showing Alexander that Anneliese hadn’t forgotten her dreams or allowed her skills to atrophy.

Chapter 414 A Personal Decision
“Really? Anneliese bit her lip, uncertainty flickering in her expression.

Of course, Mrs. Fullbuster, do you have so little confidence in yourself?” Jonathan’s eyes glimmered with amusement as he glanced at her.
“Of course not! Next question. Did you invest in the lab solely because of me?”
Jonathan smirked, and just then, the car slowed to a stop at an intersection. He turned to face
her directly
“What answer do you want to hear?”
“I want to believe you invested because you trust in the lab’s potential, not for personal reasons. Otherwise, it would undermine Prof. Clocke and the seniors!” Anneliese responded without hesitation.
She didn’t think Jonathan would let personal feelings influence business decisions.
Yet she couldn’t ignore the coincidence. She had been ready to leave Occaton for a position in Westrough, and somehow, the lab had ended up relocating to Occaton. It made her wonder.
If Jonathan’s investment had truly been for her sake, it made her wonder why he would go to such lengths and whether he simply didn’t want her to move away and be apart from him.
Jonathan sighed, meeting her eyes. “So Mrs. Fullbuster, you don’t want me spending a fortu. on you, huh?”
The faint disappointment in his voice made her hesitate. She pressed, “Just answer the question.
When the light turned green, he focused on the road and explained, “Remember what I said during that interview on the hospital rooftop? AeroAir plans to construct eVTOL takeoff and landing facilities around Occaton Airport over the next five years, forming a regional transport network and positioning Occaton Airport as a global leader.
“Last year, I examined every major eVTOL lab, research institute, and innovation center nationwide. I met Prof. Clocke and the others before that. Honestly, your lab isn’t the only one I’ve invested in.”
