However, when she tugged on the strap, it didn’t budge—Jonathan was still holding on. She looked up at him in confusion, and just then, he bent down and pressed a soft kiss to her forehead. A playful smile curled at his lips as he whispered in her ear, “Hmm, looks like you just couldn’t wait, Mrs. Fullbuster.”

Even though the students had their backs to them, Anneliese could practically feel their ears perk up. Her face flared again, and she had the sudden urge to stomp on him.

“Cut it out!” she hissed, glaring up at him.

Jonathan found her fierceness more amusing than threatening. Instead of backing off, he leaned in closer and murmured,

“Why are you so popular?”

First, a senior had tried to flirt with her. The moment he looked away, a few more guys lined up to get her number. She wouldn’t even let him stay close, as if to make it clear she wasn’t

taken.

Anneliese could hear a faint note of grievance in his voice. Through the mirrored elevator walls, she could see the guys in front still sneaking glances at them.

She reached over to pinch his waist in warning–but he was all lean muscle, and she couldn’t get a grip through his shirt. Her hand slipped, and she ended up falling straight into his arms.

She tried to pull away, but he wrapped his arms around her and spun her lightly.

In the reflection, his tall, broad back and long legs framed the scene, while her slim calves in black knee–high boots peeked out–exuding a playful, flirtatious energy.

The silence in the elevator said it all. Mortified, Anneliese buried her face in his chest, refusing to budge. Because of that, she practically power–walked through the supermarket, barely glancing at Jonathan.

He noticed how flustered she was and, for once, didn’t tease her–just followed at a relaxed

pace.

When she finally stopped, they were in front of the personal care aisle.

“Hurry up and buy it,” she whispered.

Jonathan didn’t move. He took her hand and said casually, “Shouldn’t we get some other stuff too? I’m fine either way.”

She turned and saw him pushing a big, empty shopping cart. Just imagining a single little box sitting in that oversized cart made her scalp tingle.

She shot him another glare. “Why’d you grab such a huge cart?”

Jonathan raised an eyebrow. “Should I just carry it in my hand then?”

Anneliese fell silent.

Yeah, that would be even worse.

She started regretting ever getting out of the car. Honestly, she should’ve just said no this morning when he suggested going to the store together.

“Let’s look around first. We should get some daily supplies for your grandma, so she’ll have them when she’s discharged,” he said, gently taking her hand when he saw she was about to

snap.

In the end, they didn’t just buy things for Nishay–they filled the cart with snacks too, before heading back to the personal care aisle.
