Chapter 439 Come Check Out Grandma’s Photography Skills

“Come on, don’t get too close. You’re going to get coffee stains all over yourself.”

But Anneliese didn’t let go. She clung even tighter, mumbling,

“I just want to be close to you.”

Jonathan looked a little resigned. Honestly, he wasn’t feeling that sad or hurt.

He was a grown man. His heart had gotten tough and cold a long time ago, and he’d outgrown needing a mother’s love.

He’d accepted the truth that his mother didn’t love him when he was just 13 or 14.

Now, nothing Elizabeth did could really get to him.

What actually got to him was the way Anneliese handled him so gently, like he was some fragile item. It made him want to laugh, but at the same time, it softened that cold, tough heart of his.

She just had a knack for stirring up his heart, always making him feel something without even realizing it.

And honestly, that was a feeling he could get addicted to.

The faint smile on Jonathan’s lips quickly vanished. He frowned and sighed lightly.

“Hey, nobody ever said parents have to love their kids. I just didn’t get any motherly love, that’s all. I’ll make up for it in other ways, right?”

His voice sounded a little down, and Anneliese’s heart ached for him.

She knew it. There was no way he could be totally unfazed.

She pressed her cheek to his shoulder, nodding over and over. “Uh–huh. There are plenty of people out there who would want to love you and take care of you…”

Jonathan’s Adam’s apple bobbed. “Does that include you?”

Anneliese’s lashes fluttered. She bit her lip, cheeks burning. “Of course! We’re married. You look out for me and make me happy, so I’ll do the same for you! My parents don’t love me either. Looks like we’re a perfect match!”

Even though she never said “I love you” out loud, Jonathan was already more than satisfied.

He nodded in agreement, grabbed one of her hands, and pressed it to his chest. Then he said in a low and husky voice, “Then give me a little rub. It hurts a bit.”

Anneliese’s sweetness made his heart beat so fast it actually ached.

Her palm landed right over his strong heartbeat, and she gently massaged his chest.

Jonathan couldn’t hold back his smile anymore.

When they finally pulled over, Anneliese realized they hadn’t headed back to Maple Bay.

Instead, they’d arrived at Pinepeak Bay Villa, where Penelope lived.

Anneliese looked surprised. “Why are we here? Did Grandma invite us over for dinner?”

Jonathan raised his eyebrows. “You’ll see in a minute.”

He got out of the car first, and Anneliese hurried to follow. Jonathan had already opened the back seat and taken out the flowers for her.

That huge bouquet that filled her arms looked tiny when he carried it in one hand.

He took her hand and led her to the house. Before they even reached the door, Penelope came out, having heard from the staff that they’d arrived.

It was deep winter, and the yard lights and street lamps were already on, bathing the

young couple in a warm glow. Jonathan was holding the flowers, making the whole scene even

sweeter.

Penelope whipped out her phone and snapped several pictures of the couple right away.

“Look at that! My blockheaded grandson finally figured it out. He’s actually giving Anneliese flowers!”

She tucked her phone away and teased her grandson, not expecting a reply. Then she looked at Anneliese.

“Anne, come check out Grandma’s photography skills.”

Penelope showed Anneliese the photos. In the photo, the two of them were holding hands, walking together, looking sweet and close. Her eyes lit up.

It was their first photo together.
