Jonathan felt a mix of disappointment and helplessness, but he didn’t want to push her.
Just then, Anneliese noticed her phone lighting up. She glanced at Jonathan and said, “It’s probably Zacharias.”
Her phone had barely had a moment of peace lately. The calls, texts, and random unknown numbers were constantly buzzing. She had just put it on silent. However, the screen now showed a call from the director of the PR department at Clauderias Tech.
Still, Anneliese knew who it really was. She had blocked Zacharias, Jackie, and Melody, but former colleagues from Clauderias Tech weren’t on her blocklist.
“Go ahead. See what he wants.” The mess online had all started with Coral. Jonathan looked annoyed, but gave her the nod to answer.
Anneliese swiped to pick up and quickly switched it to speaker with recording on.
“Anne, it’s me!” Zacharias‘ hoarse voice came through.
Anneliese hadn’t seen Zacharias in a while, and somehow he felt strange, almost like a shadow she didn’t quite recognize.
It wasn’t the dizzying pull he used to have on her. It was the sudden realization that he really seemed to have slipped out of her life. Even something like this happening barely stirred a flicker of feeling inside her.
She’d fully stepped out of it. She was ready to forget him.
“Zacharias, seriously? Your little side chick pulls this stunt, and you still have the nerve to call me?” Anneliese snapped.
“Anne, I… I didn’t expect Coral to go this far, to turn it all back on us, I—”
“Spare me the ‘us. Just say what you need to say.”
Anneliese cut him off, irritation sharp in her tone. Zacharias felt it like a slow scrape across his chest. He drew in a steadying breath before speaking. “Coral… she wants us to meet her.”
He gave her the time and address. Anneliese looked at Jonathan and said nothing wordlessly. “I want to go.”
Coral is making such a scene, I’ve got to see for myself what she’s trying to pull.

Chapter 446 Disappointment and Helplessness
Jonathan cut in, his voice low and sharp. “She’s nothing. You don’t need to see her.”

Anneliese froze, taken aback by his directness. She looked at him, eyes wide, feeling a little helpless.
Before she could even say anything, Zacharias snapped, his anger flaring. “Jonathan! You’re here too? Anne, how could you let him eavesdrop on our call?”
Anneliese just stared, totally speechless.
I wanna swear. D*mn it, Zacharias is the real stain on my life! How the hell have I been blind all these years?
“Are you out of your mind? What’s wrong with me taking this call with my hubby? You think I’d pick up without his okay? Apologize to him right now!” Anneliese practically unleashed a storm on her phone.
Zacharias‘ expression went pale. “Anne, you want me to apologize to him? You’re always so independent, so strong–willed. And now you’re letting him control even your calls? If he hadn’t thrown money around to fake things and get you into the lab, would you even be taking this kind of abuse online? He’s the one who should take the blame here. He looks down on you because of your background and education, doesn’t he? Anne, he never really loved you!”
Anneliese rolled her eyes, utterly exasperated. Her voice went icy. “I said apologize to him. Right now. Or I’m hanging up.”
Zacharias let out a shuddering breath, trembling with anger.
Anneliese actually threatens me like this for Jonathan. She takes his side every time. She’s willing to humiliate me just for him.
Zacharias thought back to all those times he had begged Anneliese to apologize for Coral and Selina, over and over. It felt like a boomerang had shredded his heart.
But the mess online had blown up way too big. Clauderias Tech’s website got hit hard. By the time morning came, the stock had started tanking, dropping more and more.
Right now, Zacharias desperately needed to figure out a solution with Anneliese.
His Adam’s apple bobbed painfully as he finally spoke. “Mr. Fullbuster, I… I’m sorry. That came out wrong.”
Jonathan, though, never once looked away from Anneliese.
