Chapter 447 There’s No In–Between
“Alright, don’t get out. I’ll go in by myself,” Anneliese said, tugging at her seatbelt.

She was nervous about reporters lurking around. If they caught Jonathan, it would be a mess. She reached for the car door.
But Jonathan grabbed the back of her neck and spun her back around with one firm hand. “We go in together, or we leave together. There’s no in–between.”
Anneliese just stared at him, words failing her.
I feel like ever since I shot down his plan to go public, this guy has gotten seriously short–tempered…
Anneliese hadn’t seen Coral in ages.
The last time she remembered, Coral was always perfectly made up, dressed to the nines, with this glint in her eyes that screamed ambition.
But the Coral standing in front of her now looked frail and worn out. Her skin was pale, almost sickly, her hair dry and lifeless. The sharp edge of anger around her made her seem years older, drained of that youthful college energy and spark she once had.
It’s obvious Coral’s been through hell lately. But I don’t really get it. Even if she and Zacharias had a falling out, there’s no way he’d treat her that badly. Just from the time she spent around him, she should have had enough to get by and make it through college or even line up her next sugar daddy. How does it end up like this?
Anneliese studied Coral with a puzzled look, but Coral was staring right back at her, eyes burning with jealous resentment.
After Zacharias dumped her, Coral finally realized how powerless she was without his approval. She couldn’t even get close to the circles he used to move in.
Then her parents and her brother, Tonell Slenderidge, showed up. They’d gotten used to the easy money she used to send every month, and now that it stopped, they came to collect- literally.
They were living in the villa Zacharias had given Coral, but instead of gratitude, they gave her bruises and insults. Every day was a round of shouting and beatings. They wanted her to crawl back to Zacharias and beg for forgiveness. When that didn’t work, they pushed her to seduce
other men.

thousand a month lifestyle, they didn’t care what happened to her.

Coral wasn’t innocent either. Once she had grown accustomed to spending freely and living in luxury, it was hard to return to the frugal college life she had previously had.
She began frequenting bars and parties, hoping to find another way in. Her grades tanked. Her health did too. She ended up with two men, but neither one came close to what Zacharias had been.
The first was a spoiled rich kid who threw her five thousand after two nights together and told her to get lost. The second was a small business owner pushing forty. He actually seemed to like her, but his wife was a nightmare.
That woman showed up one night, dragged Coral out, and slapped her so many times she lost two teeth. The guy came running but didn’t even dare open his mouth. In the end, he tossed her fifty thousand as hush money and disappeared.
Meanwhile, the university had already sent multiple warnings about her missing credits. She never went back to make them up, so they were preparing to kick her out.
Her future was in ruins. Her money was gone. She was desperate to get rid of her family freeloaders.
That villa was her last hope. But then Tonell went and got himself hooked on gambling. He’d lost the entire property on the table.
I have nothing left now. My life is a wreck. Everything is falling apart. And yet Anneliese just keeps getting more beautiful. Since her divorce, she is even more radiant. There is this soft, sultry warmth in her eyes that was never there before. I am a woman too, and of course, I can tell. Only someone who is being cherished, spoiled, and wrapped up in a sweet romance looks like that. But why does she get to be so lucky? She was the one who used to be the loser. It is not supposed to be like this.
Coral’s wild, jealous glare faltered when another gaze, sharp and cold yet far more commanding, cut straight through it.
A moment later, Jonathan stepped forward, tall and solid like a wall that shielded Anneliese from Coral’s stare.
The moment Coral met his eyes, she went pale. She quickly dropped her gaze, suddenly very aware of herself.
Jonathan pulled out a chair, then another, sliding them close together before sitting down with Anneliese by his side.
As if no one else existed, he laced his fingers through hers and rested their joined hands
