“Was it really my idea to return to the White estate back then? Timothy was the one who came all the way to Baytree, insisting on recognizing me as family.
“When you add it up, I only lived there for a little over a year. What kind of life did I have during that time? If I didn’t end up broken from all the gaslighting and humiliation, it was only because I fought hard and made something of myself.”
Anneliese flung the DNA test report at Selina, a smirk tugging at her lips. “Thanks for sharing such great
news.”
She turned to leave, but Selina’s face twisted with rage.
This reaction was nothing like what Selina had expected. She screamed, “Wait!”
Anneliese ignored her and reached for the car door.
Selina rushed forward to block her way, adding, “Anneliese, since you’re not even part of the White family, you have no right to Grandma’s emerald bracelet or the Maple Bay apartment she left you.
“Hand over the deed and the bracelet right now.”
Anneliese drove her elbow into Selina’s side, making her yelp and stumble back. She pulled the door open, slid into the driver’s seat, and slammed it shut.
Through the window, she gave Selina a cool, dismissive look. “I’m not giving anything back. What are you going to do about it? Sue me? I dare you.”
She rolled her eyes, smoothly reversed, and sped off.
Selina watched the car disappear, stomping her feet in frustration. She cursed Anneliese for being shameless. Everyone knows she isn’t even related to the Whites by blood. How can she still have the nerve to keep Grandma’s inheritance? She’s absolutely shameless!
She grabbed her phone and quickly sent a WhatsApp message to Elizabeth, reporting everything that had happened. Over the past few weeks, she had been messaging her on and off. She was still waiting for her to teach Anneliese a lesson.
For some reason, there hadn’t been a single response. The silence drove her crazy.
How does a girl like Anneliese, with no real parents, end up this lucky?
In truth, Anneliese wasn’t nearly as carefree as she had seemed in front of Selina. After driving a short distance, she suddenly hit the brakes and pulled over.
She sat there blankly, not sure how long she had been lost in thought, when someone gently tapped on her window. She turned her head and froze.
Jonathan was standing outside.

He was supposed to be at work, yet here he was, right in front of her, just when she was feeling lost and shaken. She stared at him, stunned and unable to react.
After another soft tap on the window, she snapped out of it and unlocked the door.
He opened it, leaned in, and scooped her straight out of the driver’s seat. “How could I not come back? You didn’t even buckle your seatbelt. Next time, I’ll have to spank you.”
That was when Anneliese realized she really had forgotten to buckle up. She looked up at him, nestled in his arms, speechless.
Seeing her like this, he couldn’t stay mad. He opened the back door, set her inside, and climbed in after her. Before he could close the door, she wrapped her arms around his waist and buried herself in his embrace again.
Jonathan’s eyes glimmered with amusement. He shut the door and gently stroked her hair. “You’re really clingy these days,” he said with a quiet laugh.
