Godfather–it sounded terrifying, but the truth was that light and darkness could never coexist. The Stone family had been a family of national merit; if he wanted to stay with Natalie, he had to start planning carly.
He’d chosen this path once out of desperation to survive, but now he had a wife, a son, and a daughter–he didn’t need that life anymore.
While Baron’s thoughts churned, Waylon and Natalie had already stepped through the gates of the Stone residence.
It didn’t take long before they reached the mansion’s true entrance.
It really was worthy of its century–old reputation.
The red lacquered doors, once brilliant, had faded to a dull brown, the bronze knocker corroded green with age, echoing with a deep, heavy sound each time it struck. The stone steps had been worn smooth and hollowed by time, and stubborn tufts of grass grew from the cracks. Overhead, a weathered paper fan hung from the eaves, turning slowly in the wind.
The air itself carried the weight of history; Natalie couldn’t help feeling a quiet reverence rise within her.
Waylon’s gaze softened too. It had been twenty years since he last came back, and the place truly had aged.
The villas inside might have been renovated, but this gate–the one that symbolized the Stone family’s century–old glory–had been left to decay, covered in the marks of time.
Waylon stepped forward and ran his hand along the doorframe; his eyes glistened.
This had once been the home of his youth. This was his root. Yet now, it looked as worn and lifeless as he himself did today–stripped of all dignity.
“Natalie, this gate is the face of the Stone residence,” he said quietly. “It was built by the government a hundred years ago after our ancestor–the first generation–gave his life for the country. It stands as the Stone family’s history, our honor! But look at it now–the peeling paint, the moss–covered walls. Where’s the splendor it once had?”
His voice grew low and heavy.
“It’s my fault. I shouldn’t have stayed away for more than twenty years. I thought everyone in the Stone family was decent and kind–that no evil could exist among us. I never tried to

understand what’s been happening here all these years.”
Guilt filled Waylon’s voice.

After Natalie’s death, Ruby had fallen apart, so he’d taken his wife and children abroad; it was understandable. But he’d truly abandoned everything about this old home.
The Stone residence had been like a scar in his heart–too painful to touch, so he’d chosen not to look at it at all.
Now that he’d found his daughter again, he finally realized just how terribly wrong he’d been.
Even back then, when he’d agreed to let his younger brother adopt an heir, it had only been to ease his own conscience. But could he really say he held no resentment toward Xenon? Impossible.
Seeing her father so distraught, Natalie stepped forward.
“Dad, it’s not too late. We’re here now, aren’t we? Everything will be okay.”
“Yeah, dad,” Baron added. “Now’s not the time to dwell on the past. We still don’t know what’s going on with Yvonne and Alden.”
Waylon took a deep breath, forcing his emotions back down, and discreetly wiped the tears from his eyes.
“You’re right. Let’s see what’s going on with those two. Alden’s been bullied by Logan for years, but Yvonne’s only been back a short while, why would she be brought here too? Looks like this Mr. Logan really is something.”
He gave a cold snort, then turned to the men in black beside him. “Find out everything about this Logan. You’ve got five minutes–I want every piece of information you can get.”
“Yes, sir.”
One of the men immediately hurried off.
Baron glanced at him but stayed silent as the three of them pushed open the weathered gate and stepped inside.
Beyond the gate stood clusters of modern villas–sleek, sharp lines clashing with the air of old grandeur.
Natalie had heard Waylon describe the layout of the Stone residence before; she knew Alden
lived in the villas.
