After Jason calmed Naomi down a bit, she still felt uneasy.

Back when Hector was in grad school, there were rumors that he never had any women around him. People even started wondering if he was even into women. But then, at a dinner hosted by Cedric, he met Naomi.

That night, Naomi asked Hector many questions, and he answered them patiently. To everyone else, it appeared that Hector had finally found someone special.

After that, rumors started flying in the medical community that Hector had fallen for Naomi at first sight.

As the rumors circulated, Naomi started hearing them too, and she even fantasized that Hector might one day confess his feelings to her. But much to her disappointment, Hector never acted on it. Instead, he distanced himself.

Back then, Naomi had only just graduated from college, while Hector was already done with grad school.

Even after all this time, Naomi still wondered if, back then, Hector had ever had feelings for her.

But then she met Charles, and Hector faded from her mind. Still, Hector was unmatched in the medical world.

‘He must’ve had feelings for me, right? Why else would all the rumors be about the two of us?‘ Naomi wondered.

Jason couldn’t read Naomi’s mind. Seeing her looking down, he assumed she was still stressing about her research, so he tried to cheer her up. “Naomi, you’re amazing. If this PhD is giving you trouble, just forget about it.”

“No way,” Naomi replied, her voice burning with determination. “I’m going to finish my PhD with top grades. I’m going to do better than Teresa and show everyone what I’m made of.”

Jason figured Hector must’ve gotten under her skin, but he still said seriously, “Whatever you want to do, just go for it. Me, Charles, Finn -we’ve all got your back.”

Meanwhile, after Hector and Teresa left the restaurant, they ran into Liam’s way

As Liam stepped out, Yolanda followed right behind. When Yolanda saw Teresa and Hector, she was momentarily stunned.

Still upset over her toy being broken by her mom, Yolanda didn’t greet Teresa. But when she saw Hector, she hesitated for a walked over and sweetly called out, “Hello, Mr. Reed.”

Hector was taken aback, turning to Teresa with a puzzled look.

Teresa just glanced at him, not saying anything.

It was the first time Yolanda had taken the initiative to greet Hector.

second, then

Both Teresa and Hector were confused, but Yolanda knew exactly why–she had heard from Jason that Hector could help Naomi. So even though she was still mad at her mom, she made sure to cozy up to Hector.

Hector looked down at her, smiling gently. “Hello, Yolanda.”

Yolanda blinked up at him. “Mr. Reed, aren’t you gonna eat with us?”

Hector chuckled. “Nah, we’re gonna grab a bite somewhere else.”

Yolanda quickly blurted out, “But Miss Naomi still has some questions she wants to ask you.”

That caught both Teresa and Hector off guard. So Yolanda had been friendly with Hector because of Naomi. Everything made sense

now.

Hector glanced at Teresa, who had turned her face away, obviously hurt. Yolanda was still tugging at his sleeve, waiting for an answer. Hector crouched down to her level, gently resting his hands on Yolanda’s shoulders. “Yolanda, mind if I ask you something?” Yolanda nodded, all smiles. Ask me anything, Mr. Reed.”

Hector locked eyes with Yolanda. “Do you remember what day tomorrow is?”

Yolanda scrunched up her face, thinking hard. “Isn’t it Saturday? Doris said Saturdays are for resting.”

Hector stayed patient. “What about last year, around this time? Did you do anything special then?” He remembered Teresa posting about Yolanda making her a birthday card.

Yolanda shook her head, looking puzzled. “No, I don’t think so.”

She looked up and realized she was resting on Hector’s lap. She quickly tried to sit up, but Hector gently stopped her. “Take it easy. Moving too fast will just make your head spin even more.”

When she finally sat up, she leaned back against the seat and asked, “Hector, what time is it?

Hector glanced at his watch. “It’s two o’clock.”

Teresa paused, feeling embarrassed. “Sorry for the trouble.” She knew she’d gotten drunk and probably said too much.

Hector looked at her, his gentle features strikingly handsome. When he smiled, his eyes were captivating. He didn’t respond to her apology. Instead, he said softly, “Teresa, happy birthday.”

Teresa’s heart ached. She turned her face away, unsure what to say.

Hector leaned over to the passenger seat, picked up a bouquet and a bag, and handed the flowers to Teresa. “I was supposed to give these to you today, but I bought them yesterday.

“I wanted to be the first to wish you happy birthday. Sorry, they’ve been in the car all night, so they’re a little wilted.”

Teresa looked down and saw the sunflowers. She took the bouquet, her eyes still red. “Thank you, Hector.”

Seeing her take the flowers, Hector beamed. “If you need help with the divorce, I can help you find a lawyer.”

Teresa shook her head. “I’ll talk to Charles face–to–face when he gets back from his trip. If we can’t work things out, then I’ll get a lawyer,”
