When She Walks Away (Teresa) novel Chapter 136

Chapter 136

When the group arrived, Naomi rushed over to check on Yolanda. Jason stood off to the side, watching Teresa get bitten without making any move to help.

It was Finn who sprang into action. He grabbed a stick from somewhere and started whacking the dog, trying to get it to let go. But the dog was relentless, refusing to release its grip on Teresa’s arm.

Finn kept hitting the dog with the stick, shouting and trying to scare it off.

Jason couldn’t be bothered with Finn and turned back to Yolanda, only to notice her calf was bleeding, with several wounds.

Jason frowned, concern flashing across his face. “Yolanda’s wound is bleeding. We need to get her to the hospital, now.”

Naomi picked Yolanda up in her arms and headed outside without hesitation.

Jason followed for a few steps, but realized Charles wasn’t coming along. He glanced back and saw Charles kicking the dog, trying to get it off Teresa.

Even after a few kicks, the dog just whimpered and stubbornly kept its jaws locked.

Jason could tell Charles was trying to help Teresa, but right now Yolanda was in more danger.

Jason shouted, “Charles, hurry up. Yolanda needs to get her wound treated at the hospital. Forget about Teresa for now. Finn’s got her.”

Charles hesitated for a moment when he heard Jason calling out, then turned to Finn. “Finn, I’m taking Yolanda to the hospital. Can you keep an eye on Teresa for me?

Finn didn’t waste time thinking. “Go. I’ll take care of it.”

Charles glanced down at Teresa, who was shielding her head with both hands while the dog clamped onto her right arm; her arm was already bleeding.

Both situations were urgent, but Yolanda was still just a kid; she couldn’t handle it as well as the others.

After a moment of hesitation, Charles made up his mind to take Yolanda to the hospital first to get her checked out and get her shots.

As the group was leaving with Yolanda, they bumped into Wendy, who had come running after hearing all the noise.

Wendy was completely lost, seeing them rushing away with Yolanda in their arms.

But as she moved closer, she saw Teresa being bitten by a dog, while Finn was desperately trying to drive the animal away.

Finn wasn’t the type to get rough, and he was squeamish about blood. So even though the dog was going wild on Teresa, he held back, not wanting to really hurt it.

But Wendy was a whole different story. The moment she saw Teresa getting attacked, she rushed over and gave the dog a brutal kick to the head.

The dog still wouldn’t let go, so she didn’t stop there; Wendy landed several more fierce kicks.

Whether it was exhaustion or pain, the dog finally let go, flopped to the ground, tail drooping, mouth open, and gasping for air.

Wendy didn’t waste a second; she hauled Teresa to her feet, and Finn quickly stepped in to help.

Finn shot Teresa a worried look. “Are you okay?”

Teresa was still in a daze, barely registering the pain in her arm. She numbly shook her head. I’m fine.

Seeing her hand dripping blood and her face pale, Finn blurted out, “Let me take you to the hospital.”

Before Teresa could say a word, Wendy glared at Finn and snapped, “Scrain, I’ve got a car.

Wendy knew Finn was part of Charles’s crew, and figured they’d just ditched Teresa. That made her even angrier.

Chapter 136

Finn was left speechless by Wendy’s retort, not sure what to say back.

Wendy supported Teresa, her voice aching with sympathy. “They’re all bastards.”

Teresa’s legs felt like jelly; every step she took was wobbly and weak.

Wendy was ranting, cursing out Charles and Naomi left and right, but Tere

barely heard any of it.

She felt powerlessnot because of the pain, but because she was feeling faint from the sight of blood.

Funny thing was, Teresa was a doctora surgeon, no less–but she’d get woozy just seeing blood.

It wasn’t something she’d always had; it was an after–effect from when she had her baby.

Wendy was helping Teresa out of the doors when Teresa’s legs finally gave out and she started to fall forward.

“Teresa?” Wendy shouted, panic in her voice.

Just as she was bracing for the pain, it never came. Through the haze, Teresa sensed someone coming closer.

Suddenly, she was swept up into someone’s arms, and she could feel a pair of scorching eyes on her–so intense that it was like they wanted to burn right through her.

Then, Teresa felt her body trembling as someone carried her in their arms, each step making her sway.

At the same time, she heard a voice, thick with complicated emotions. There was resentment, guilt, pain, and a kind of aching tenderness.

A voice sounded. “Why do you always end up so battered whenever you’re with him? I was barely gone for an hour, and you’re already hurt like this. If you’d chosen to marry me, I’d never let anything happen to you-”

When Teresa finally opened her eyes, the strong, stinging scent of disinfectant hit her nose. Her arm throbbed with pain, and she winced a little.

As her head cleared, she started to remember what had happened before she blacked out.

Wendy was sitting by the bed, and when she saw Teresa open her eyes, her face lit up with relief. “Teresa, you’re awake?

Teresa’s voice was hoarse and low as she replied, “Yeah.”

Wendy grabbed Teresa’s hand, choking up as she said, “Do you have any idea how scared I was?

Teresa gave Wendy’s hand a gentle, reassuring rub with her thumb. “I’m fine.

After crying for a bit, Wendy finally said, “It was Troy who carried you over.”

She still didn’t know if he was really sincere or just putting on a show, but that night, he was the only one who would’ve helped her.

Teresa hesitated, then asked, So, where did he go?”

Wendy kept peeling the apple as she answered, “He brought you to the hospital, waited until the doctor gave a diagnosis, and then left. A woman came to pick him up.”

Teresa just nodded. “Okay.”

Wendy handed her a slice of apple. Just a minute ago I was telling you to steer clear of men like him, and the next thing you know, he’s

the one helping you.”

Teresa just smiled and kept quiet.

Wendy’s thoughts jumped all over the place.

After talking about Troy, she switched gears and started cursing out Charles. “That bastard seriously couldn’t care less if you lived or died. You’re getting mauled and all he cares about is Yolanda’s life.”

Teresa just gave a faint, resigned smile. “That’s just how he is.”

Wendy was so mad she could spit, but seeing Teresa looking so pale, she forced herself to hold back.

After Teresa finished the apple, Yvonne and Theodore came by the hospital.

After Teresa fainted, Theodore called, and once Wendy filled them in on what happened, they said they’d come over.

The shots were done and the poison was gone, so Teresa didn’t need to stay at the hospital. Yvonne said it was time to head home.

Teresa was worried about Wendy, so she asked Theodore to give Wendy a ride home first.

Once Wendy was dropped off, the family headed back to the Sullivan Mansion.

By the time they arrived at the Sullivan Mansion, it was already past midnight.

When Teresa stepped into her bedroom, she saw that the sheets she’d left perfectly smooth that morning were now a mess.

She sat down, ran her hand over the sheets, and realized they were still warm to the touch.
