When She Walks Away (Teresa) novel Chapter 138

Chapter 138

Charles felt a little sting in his heart hearing Yolanda’s words. He gently rested his chin on her head and said, “I’m here. I’ll be with you.”

“Okay,” Yolanda muttered, not making a fuss but clearly not happy about it.

Charles could tell she was upset, but he didn’t realize it was because she really wanted her mom to be there. Sometimes, even kids couldn’t figure out their feelings.

Yolanda leaned her head against Charles’s chest. As she turned to the side, she saw Teresa snapping photos of Monica.

The two of them were laughing and having the time of their lives, not even noticing Yolanda and Charles standing behind them. Yolanda felt a pang of loneliness in her heart.

But Mom never gives me this kind of happiness, Yolanda thought, her heart sinking.

Yolanda couldn’t bear to watch any longer. She turned to Charles and said, “Daddy, let’s go do something else.”

Charles wanted to make Yolanda happy, so he agreed right away.

But he was still a little worried. He gently suggested, “We can only play for a little while, though. Your injuries aren’t fully healed yet.”

Yolanda nodded. “I know. I’ll be good.”

Charles took her on the little train and the swings. She had fun, but something just felt weird inside. Yolanda just couldn’t put her finger on what was bothering her.

After a few rides, Yolanda lost interest.

When the carousel stopped, Teresa helped Monica down from her horse.

As soon as she stood up straight, she heard a cheerful boy’s voice behind her. “Miss?

Teresa turned and saw the little boy she’d met at last night’s party. Today, he was dressed in a sporty tracksuit and wore a black cap.

She remembered him welleven his dad had called him Zane.

When Teresa saw him, her face lit up with a big smile. “Hey, Zane. Fancy seeing you here.”

The little boy straightened up and said earnestly, “Miss, my name is Zane Peterson.”

Teresa smiled at him, Pleasure to see you again, Zane. I’ll remember your name now. I’m Teresa Sullivan.”

As Monica turned around, Zane’s eyes widened. “M–Monica?

“Zane, why are you also here?Monica asked, stepping out from the carousel area.

Zane didn’t answer Monica’s question. Instead, he turned his head, scanning the crowd, and called out loudly, Mr. Hamilton,”

‘Mr. Hamilton? Troy?‘ Teresa wondered, glancing around, but Troy was nowhere to be seen.

Then, looking straight ahead, Teresa spotted Troy swaggering over with his hands stuffed in his pockets, a cocky look on his face. He had a lollipop jammed in his mouth, his cheek bulging out in the shape of the candy.

As Troy walked over, he didn’t spare Teresa a glance. He just looked down at Zane and asked, “What’s up?

Zane moved to his side, hooking his finger around Troy’s. He was about to say something when Monica jumped in, “Hey, Mr. Handsome. So, what’s your connection with Zane?

Troy turned to Monica and gave her a gentle smile. “I’m close friends with Zane’s dad.”

Monica instantly understood. She stepped up, grabbed Zane’s hand, and said, “Great. Let’s all play together.

Before Zane could even say no, Monica was already dragging him off to the next ride.

They all went to the same kindergarten as Yolanda, so they were familiar with each other.

The two kids dashed ahead, and Teresa called out with concern, “Monica, slow down. Be careful not to fall.”

Monica shouted back as she dragged Zane onto the trampoline. The two of them bounced around, laughing and having a blast.

Teresa turned to look at Troy, but he just turned his head away, letting her see only his side.

Still, Teresa spoke up, “Wendy told me about last night. Anyway, thanks.”

Troy didn’t say a word or even glance at her. He just stood there, not budging. He stayed right next to Teresa, keeping his face turned

away.

‘He’s definitely doing this on purpose. He can hear me. I know it, Teresa thought.

She kept her cool and said, “Look. You don’t have to keep sending gifts to the Sullivan Mansion. I really don’t need any of it.”

Teresa had no idea what Troy’s problem was, but she wasn’t about to press him about it.

Teresa was worried Monica might get hurt, so she went after her.

As soon as Teresa left, Troy tagged along right behind her.

After Monica finished her water, she grabbed Troy’s hand. “Mr. Hamilton, can you go on the big plane with me? Since Aunt Teresa hurt her hand, she can’t come with me.”

Troy smiled gently and said, “Sure thing.”

The two of them got on the ride, and Troy kept Monica safe in his arms.

Zane claimed he was afraid of heights, and even when Monica called him a scaredy–cat, he just shook his head and refused to go.

Teresa and Zane took a seat on a bench, and she started snapping photos of Monica having the time of her life.

Meanwhile, on the ride, Monica wasn’t excited at all. She looked all serious and asked, “Mr. Hamilton, did you come here to see my

aunt?”

Troy replied, Yeah, but don’t let her know. She’s still mad at me.”

‘Who’s really mad here? It’s not Teresait’s Troy himself, still sulking over the whole thing with Charles, Teresa thought.

Monica gripped the railing, gazing down at the scenery. She asked with curiosity, But Aunt Teresa is always so easygoing. If she’s mad at you, you must’ve really messed up.”

Troy paused, thinking it over for a few seconds, then said, Yeah, guess I should’ve stuck to my guns.”

His words were a bit vague, and Monica didn’t quite get it.

But she put on her best grownup voice and said, “Well, you just gotta keep at it. Ms. Taylor always says we have to stick with it and keep going if we want to be good kids who go to bed early and wake up early.”

Troy couldn’t help but laugh. He ruffled Monica’s hair and said, “Alright, I will keep going and try my best, promise.”

Monica puffed out her chest with pride. “Aunt Teresa is super popular. There was even a super handsome sir who escorted her home

once.

Troy blurted out, a little jealous, “What?

Monica paused to think, then nodded. “Yeah, it was Mr. Reed. He’s really good–looking, and my grandparents think he’s amazing.”

Troy realized Monica meant Hector. Feeling a bit jealous but helpless, he leaned closer and asked in a hushed, slightly sulky voice, “Tell me, Monicawho’s more handsome, me or Mr. Reed?”

Monica gave it some serious thought and replied, “You’re both really handsome.”

Troy teased, “But what if you really had to pick one?”

Monica whispered, “I don’t want to choose. I just want Aunt Teresa to be happy. She never smiles when she’s with her husband. I don’t like him. I just hope Aunt Teresa finds someone who makes her smile every single day.”
