Teresa had no clue what Troy was up to, but she didn’t press him about it.
His wound kept bleeding, and she had to act fast to stop it.
After patching him up, Teresa told him, “Alright, just make sure to change the dressing on time.”
She packed everything back into her bag.
When she looked up again, she caught Troy still watching her, so she looked right back at him.
Her gaze made Troy uncomfortable, so he glanced down at his fingers and mumbled, “Is it bad?”
Teresa didn’t answer. Instead, she suddenly asked, “Troy, what exactly do you want from me?”
The dining area was pretty empty, and not far off, Monica and Zane were having a blast at the small playground.
When Troy heard Teresa’s question, it dawned on him that she’d already noticed something was off with his injury.
He’d totally forgotten she was a doctor when he deliberately hurt himself in the restroom.
It only hit him when she started patching him up.
But by then, it was too late.
Even though he was still pissed off, Troy answered her seriously, “I want you to be happy. I want you to keep your distance from Charles. And I want you… to be my girl.”
Teresa looked at him, and she saw nothing but sincerity in his eyes.
But even so, she still couldn’t believe that Troy, the infamous player, would actually want her for real.
She was being almost too logical about it. She told him, “We’re not even friends. You really don’t need to do all this for me.”
Troy got so mad he shot up from his seat. He fixed his gaze on her and said, “So, you really were just lying to me back then.”
Teresa didn’t get what he was saying and frowned.
Seeing he wasn’t going to explain, Teresa continued, “And don’t come to my place anymore.”
Troy gripped his fingers so tightly his whole body trembled.
Thinking back to what happened that afternoon, he let his eyes fall shut for a moment.
When he opened them again, his eyes were bloodshot and his stare was cold. Troy said, “Teresa, I’ve met plenty of women, but you’re the most insensitive one.
With that, Troy turned and walked away.
When he reached the small playground, Troy called out to Zane, “Zane, let’s go.”
Zane froze for a second. “Huh?”
“Huh?”
Troy didn’t want to repeat himself. He just said, “Hurry up.”
Zane had no clue what was going on, but he still did as Troy said.
Troy took Zane with him, striding off decisively without looking back.
He wasn’t just jealous. Now he was straight–up pissed.
He thought to himself that maybe it was time for him to just back off and leave her alone.
Teresa was married already, and whether she was living well or not, her heart belonged to Charles.

Chapter 149
All that talk, all those promises–just crap.
“She didn’t care anymore, so what was the point of me holding onto her promises?” He thought, bitterness welling up inside him.
Monica came back to Teresa and wrapped her arms around her neck. “Aunt Teresa, what’s wrong?”
Teresa hugged Monica back, her voice choked with emotion as she said, “Aunt Teresa’s okay.”
For some reason, she felt like crying.
Monica gently patted Teresa’s back. “Did Uncle Troy upset you?”
Teresa shook her head. “No, it’s not him. I’m just not handling things well.”
Monica nuzzled Teresa’s cheek. “Aunt Teresa, you’re awesome. And Uncle Troy’s awesome too. He can draw way more than just maple leaves. He can draw rice fields, farmers, and all kinds of things I’ve never even seen before.”
Teresa rested her chin on Monica’s shoulder and asked softly, “Do you like Uncle Troy a lot?”
Monica thought for a moment. “Yeah, but I like Mr. Reed as well.”
Teresa couldn’t help but laugh. She ruffled Monica’s hair. “Monica, you’re really good at sizing people up.”
Monica pulled back from Teresa’s embrace and asked, “What about you, Aunt Teresa? Which one do you like better?”
Teresa fell silent for a moment, caught off guard by the question.
After a while, she smiled and replied, “Neither.”
Hector was outstanding and led a scandal–free personal life.
Troy was known for being a flirt, but after getting to know him, Teresa realized he was actually pretty good.
But no matter how good they were, she didn’t dare to expect anything.
She was still married.
The next day, Monday, Teresa woke up and called Charles.
He picked up right away, but it was Naomi’s voice on the other end, “Hello, are you looking for Charles?”
Teresa didn’t hang up. Instead, she said casually, “Yeah, put him on.”
Naomi knew it was Teresa, but she didn’t hang up.
It only took Naomi a couple seconds to pass the phone over. Teresa figured they must be pretty close.
Charles called out, “Okay, Naomi, grab me a pair of boxer briefs.”
Naomi answered, “Sure, I’m putting the phone on the sink. Don’t forget to pick it up.”
Once the door closed, the water stopped running.
Aner a moment, Charles said, “I’ll call you back later.”
Right before the call ended, Teresa could just make out Naomi teasing, “Charles, I haven’t even showered yet.”
She could tell what they were doing without much thought.
It didn’t matter to her anymore.
About forty minutes later, Charles called back.
By then, Teresa was already making her rounds at work. It wasn’t a good time to pick up, so she just hung up.
But Charles wasn’t having it. “I’ve got a meeting to get to. Besides, you already know what I want.”
Teresa didn’t even hesitate. “If you’re so hell–bent on proving yourself, then go sleep with whoever you want. It’s all the same.”
If he wanted to play dirty, she could be just as reckless.
Teresa went about her day at work as usual. Once she wrapped up in the afternoon, she called Richard.
Richard picked up, his voice warm and cheerful. “Teresa!”
Teresa asked softly, “Grandpa, are you going to be home tonight?”
Richard replied, “Yeah, I’ll be here.”
Teresa thought for a moment, then said, “Grandpa, I’m thinking of coming over to Logan Manor. There’s something I want to tell you face–to–face.”
Richard felt a bit uneasy, but he still said, “Okay, I’ll be here waiting for you.”
After work, Teresa drove straight to Logan Manor.
As soon as she stepped inside, she heard Susan and the other staff shouting in a panic, “Lord Logan fell! Quick, call Mr. Logan, Mrs. Logan, Miss Yolanda–everyone!”
The whole place was thrown into chaos.
Teresa’s heart sank, and she rushed over to see what was going on.
Richard had collapsed on the cobblestone path, bleeding from the back of his head. He was completely out cold.
Teresa didn’t dare touch him. She frantically called emergency services.
At the hospital, the ER doctors rushed to resuscitate Richard.
Teresa called Charles to let him know that Richard had taken a bad fall and was now in the hospital.
Charles rushed over as soon as he heard the news.
Just as he arrived, the doors to the emergency room swung open, and a doctor in glasses stepped out. He walked over to Teresa and Charles and said, “Lord Logan’s awake. He wants to talk to you two.”
Teresa felt a knot in her stomach. She had a pretty good idea what Richard wanted to say, but there was no way she could avoid it now.
