Chapter 170

Ava was furious. She shoved Sharon Miller hard. “Sharon, what kind of mother is she? She dragged Yolanda upstairs just to hit her! If she hurts Yolanda, Naomi will be devastated. Get out of my way. I’m going to see my granddaughter.”
But Sharon held on tightly, refusing to let go.
“Mrs. Whitney, Mrs. Logan is gentle. She would never lay a hand on Yolanda. Please don’t worry,” Sharon said.
Ava struggled to pry Sharon’s arms off, but she couldn’t, so she finally gave up.
But Sharon wasn’t about to relax. She kept following Ava around, watching her closely to make sure she didn’t sneak upstairs and stir up trouble.
Upstairs, Yolanda cried herself out and collapsed on the couch.
Soon, she drifted into sleep.
Teresa’s heart ached as she watched.
When Yolanda’s breathing steadied, Teresa carefully carried her to bed and tucked her in.
Sitting at her bedside, she kept watch, wondering how she could guide her daughter.
She didn’t know how long she’d been there until Charles’s low voice came from outside the door. “Teresa, could you step out for a /moment?”
At first, she thought she had imagined it, but when he called again, she rose quietly and slipped out, careful not to wake Yolanda. She led him into the room they once shared.
When Teresa flipped on the light, she noticed the dressing table was neatly arranged with all sorts of skincare products and makeup.
The bedsheets were a soft shade of blue, and a faint, pleasant fragrance lingered.
Charles looked uneasy. He turned to Teresa and said, “I’m thinking of taking Yolanda to the hospital.
It was already very late. If they went to the hospital, they probably wouldn’t be back until the early hours of the morning.
Teresa wasn’t sure what he wanted, but she refused without a second thought. “It’s too late. Whatever it is, it can wait until tomorrow.”
Charles said, “Naomi says she misses Yolanda and wants to see her right now.”
Teresa instantly got annoyed. “Yolanda just fell asleep, and it’s already past eleven.”
Seeing Teresa’s reaction, Charles tried to explain, “I know, but I’ll have her back in no time.”
Teresa snapped, her anger rising. “Charles, is Naomi really that important to you? Important enough that you’d risk Yolanda’s health for her?”
Charles hesitated for a second before explaining, “Naomi suffered a concussion. The doctor says she’s still recovering. She keeps complaining she can’t sleep, and claims that if she sees Yolanda, she’ll get some rest. That’s why I thought about taking her over.”
Teresa let out a sharp laugh. “A concussion isn’t the end of the world. If she really misses Yolanda that much, she can come over herself.”
Seeing Teresa wasn’t going to budge, Charles didn’t want to keep arguing. He turned and started to leave the room.
Teresa guessed his intent and grabbed his arm. “Charles, I’m not letting you take Yolanda to the hospital tonight. If you do, I swear I’ll-”
Charles was already at his breaking point, and Teresa’s threat made his anger boil over.
На
spun around and, almost without thinking, shoved Teresa away. “Get out of my way!”
With that, Teresa was pushed out, stumbling backward.
She hit the floor, her forehead striking hard,

Her vision blurred, stars flashing before her eyes.
Charles froze, staring at his hand.
He’d been so worked up, he hadn’t even realized how much force he’d used.
Teresa got shoved pretty far; he must’ve really pushed her hard.
Seeing her hit the ground, Charles was stunned for a moment, then quickly knelt to help her up, his voice full of concern. “Are you okay?”
Teresa let him help her up, but her sight swam.
Charles’s face seemed warped and kept shifting in her sight.
She didn’t say anything, and Charles thought she was mad. He quickly apologized, his voice soft. “I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to.”
The words sounded distant in her ears.
It took her a while to shake off the dizziness.
Realizing he was still holding her, Teresa shoved his hand away, her voice icy. “Charles, if you keep this up, you’ll end up hurting Yolanda.”
Downstairs, Teresa was nowhere to be seen.
After finishing his cigarette, Charles made his way to Yolanda’s room.
He sat by her bed, watching her for a long while. In the end, he gently nudged her awake.
Yolanda blinked awake, and when she saw Charles, she smiled instantly. “Dad, you’re back!”
Charles pulled her up, ruffled her hair with a guilty smile. “Yolanda, how about I take you to see Miss Naomi?”
Yolanda nodded eagerly “Okay! I’ve been so worried about Miss Naomi. I’ve been wanting to see her, but Sharon wouldn’t let me.”
Charles hesitated, then asked, “What if your mom doesn’t want you to go?”
Yolanda thought about how Teresa had been treating her lately, and her anger bubbled up. “Dad, it’s my business. Lean go wherever I want. It has nothing to do with Mom. She doesn’t care about me at all. She won’t even let me eat shrimp.”
Charles felt a heaviness in his heart when he heard his daughter say that, but with Naomi still waiting, he braced himself and scooped Yolanda up.
After helping her get dressed, he took her out.
When they left, it was almost midnight.
By the time they reached the hospital, it was past midnight.
When Yolanda, pushed open the door to the hospital room, Naomi was watching videos on her phone.
At the sound, she quickly set it aside. Her face lit up when she saw Yolanda. She held out her arms and said, “Yolanda, come here, sweetie.
Yolanda ran over and threw herself into Naomi’s arms.

Chapter 170
Naomi’s head was wrapped in gauze, her hospital gown hanging loosely on her thinner frame.
Yolanda hugged her tightly, her eyes brimming with tears.
“Miss Naomi, I missed you so much. I couldn’t sleep at all without you,” Yolanda said.
Naomi hugged Yolanda back, pressing her face into her hair. “I missed you, too, sweetie. I couldn’t sleep either without you.”
But the truth was, Naomi had already gotten some sleep before Yolanda arrived.
She’d only called Yolanda over after Ava warned her that Teresa was at Joyacre Villa and might win Yolanda back.
Pretending sleeplessness was her excuse to get Yolanda to come keep her company.
Charles was always ready to do whatever Naomi wanted, but she never thought he’d really bring Yolanda over at this hour.
Yolanda snuggled into Naomi’s arms, acting all cute and needy, looking for comfort.
Naomi soothed her with sweet words until Yolanda cheered up again.
Charles watched the two of them clinging to each other, sharing how much they’d missed one another, and he felt a lump in his throat.
No one knew how long they talked before he finally said, “Yolanda, it’s time to go home.”
Yolanda didn’t want to leave. She shook her head and said, “No, I want to stay here with Miss Naomi.”
Charles was about to insist, but Naomi chimed in. “Charles, let her stay. Just this once.”
Hearing Naomi say that, Charles paused for a moment, then finally nodded. “Alright, just this once.”
