When She Walks Away (Teresa) novel Chapter 193

Chapter 193

Teresa couldn’t be bothered to set Troy straight. She just told him, “Go on, then.”

>

Right before heading out, Troy stole a quick kiss on Teresa’s forehead while she wasn’t paying attention. “You get some sleep. I’ll be back in no time,” he murmured.

With that, he left the room.

But after Troy left, Teresa found herself wide awake, sleep no longer in reach.

Her thoughts kept circling everything Troy had done for her these past two days, and every gentle word he’d spoken.

She’d always assumed Troy was drawn to her for some ulterior motive, yet to this day, she still had no clue what it could possibly be.

And yet, this man was willing to bow his head,,even kneeling by her side’to wash her feet.

It was such a simple act, but because it was Troy, it suddenly meant so much more.

Teresa couldn’t help but feel her heart being moved, a warmth quietly seeping in.

‘But… what if Troy actually means it when he’s nice to me?‘ Teresa couldn’t stop doubting.

With all these thoughts swirling in her head, Teresa found herself completely unable to sleep.

Feeling the room closing in on her, she decided to step out for some fresh air.

Before she knew it, she found herself at the end of the hallway.

There was a door there, leading to the stairwell.

Teresa slipped through the small door and stood by the half–open window, letting the cool night air wash over her.

The sky was dotted with stars, the night was simply beautiful.

The hospital garden was right below, directly in her line of sight.

Thanks to her good eyesight and being on

a

lower floor, Teresa spotted Troy and Naomi right away.

When Troy got Naomi’s message, his first instinct was to just brush it off. But something made him pause, and he ended up replying, “Alright, just send me the location. I’ll come find you.”

Naomi quickly replied with the address- -it was the hospital garden.

When Troy showed up, he immediately spotted Naomi sitting alone on a bench. She looked cold, hugging her arms around herself for

warmth.

When she heard footsteps, Naomi turned around. As soon as she saw it was Troy, a gentle smile appeared on her face. “Mr. Hamilton, you’re here,”

Even though it was already early winter, Naomi was wearing nothing but a long–sleeved dress, not even a coat.

Troy wasn’t moved at all by the sight. Instead, he shot back sarcastically, “What, isn’t Charles keeping you company tonight?”

Honestly, that was something Troy had truly wanted to ask.

But to Naomi, it really felt like Troy was getting jealous over her and Charles.

Naomi didn’t seem bothered. Shivering, she gazed up at Troy, her voice soft and pleading. I’m a little cold… Mr. Hamilton, would you mind lending me your coat?

Troy’s brows knit for a second, but then he loosened up, answering generously, “Of course.”

With that, he slipped off his coat and tossed it onto Naomi’s lap.

He wasn’t exactly gentle about it, but to Naomi, it was all the proof she needed–Troy cared about her. ‘See? He does care, she thought to

herself.

If he didn’t care, there’s no way he’d give me his coat, Naomi convinced herself.

The moment Naomi wrapped herself up in Troy’s coat, the cold faded away completely.

Seeing Troy still standing, Naomi quickly moved aside and, in a gentle voice, asked, “Mr. Hamilton, would you like to have a seat with

me?”

Troy glanced down at the tiny patch of bench Naomi had cleared. If he joined her there, they’d practically have to snuggle up together.

Troy weighed it for a second, then ducked his head, lifted one eyebrow and drawled, “Sit? Or… do you mean something more?”

He let the innuendo linger on purpose, stretching his voice out just to tease her.

They were so close now, they could have easily bumped into each other with the slightest move.

Noticing her reaction, Troy tilted his head, looked her straight in the eye, and asked bluntly with a teasing edge, “So, you really are innocent?

But just a moment later, Troy’s smile faded for no clear reason. He looked right at Naomi and said, “So you really are innocent, huh? Maybe we should find a time for you to get some experience—with me?

His words were so direct, Naomi’s cheeks burned bright red. She played innocent and asked, “Meet up? What kind of meeting did you have in mind, Mr. Hamilton?

Watching Naomi pretend not to get it, Troy felt a surge of irritation bubbling up inside.

Smiling, Troy leaned in close, getting so near their faces almost touched–then, right before his lips could reach hers, he pulled back at the last second.

From her angle, it looked for all the world like Troy was kissing Naomi.

She even found herself thinking, ‘What if Troy really does care about me? What if, just because I’m too scared to accept it, I end up pushing away the only person who’s ever truly wanted to treat me right?‘

But now, after seeing this, she realized—it was all the same in the end.

Whether it was Charles or Troy, they were cut from the same cloth. She knew she never should’ve let herself get attached in the first

place.

Even thinking all this, Teresa still couldn’t help–her tears fell before she knew it.

She stood by the window, letting the cold night wind wash away the tears on her face.

Her heart felt frozen over in an instant.

‘Good thing I never let myself fall too far,‘ she told herself bitterly.

It’s not too late for me to pull back.

Teresa didn’t watch any longer; she slowly walked back to her hospital room.

She’d barely settled back into bed when Troy walked in.

He tiptoed into the room, careful not to make a sound in case she was already asleep.

To his surprise, when he reached her bedside, Teresa wasn’t sleeping at all–her big, dark eyes were wide open, staring right at him.

Seeing this, Troy asked with a hint of confusion, “Still up?”

Teresa just glanced at him and replied calmly, “Yeah.”

Troy could tell something was off with Teresa–she seemed distant, so he teased, his voice low and playful, “What’s up? Want me to stay and hold you while you sleep?”

But Teresa didn’t answer him. Instead, she looked over, her tone cool and calm, and asked, “You were out for quite a while. What exactly were you doing?”

She was giving him an out here–if Troy would just come clean, maybe she could at least hear him out she told herself.

But Troy didn’t say a word about Naomi. “I just had to deal with some work stuff,” he explained instead.

Teresa finally let it go, her hope fading away for good. She gave a faint, almost polite smile and said, “Yeah.”

Troy noticed her smile and asked with a teasing grin, “So, want me to hold you while you sleep?”

He was already getting ready to climb into bed, but Teresa didn’t move an inch. She just looked at him, her voice cool and distant as she said, “No. I just want to sleep by myself tonight.”
