Chapter 35
Chapter 35
Charles was mad. In the past, Teresa would’ve treated like it the end of the world.
But now? She felt it was nothing worth fussing over.
‘So what if he’s mad?‘ she thought with a sneer.
The angrier Charles got, the calmer Teresa seemed.
“I used to not know what’s really important, but now I do,” she said evenly.
Then, worried he might take it the wrong way, she added, “That’s why I’m going back to take care of my family.”
Charles gripped the phone tightly. The warm glow from the streetlight fell across his face, but it didn’t soften his stormy expression one
bit.
Teresa could hear from his breathing that he was furious, but she didn’t care. She casually said, “Nothing else? Bye.”
Charles let out a low, teeth–gritting warning. “Teresa, do you even know what you’re saying?”
“Damn clear,” she replied.
And without giving him a chance to speak again, she ended the call
Charles stared at the black screen, anger boiling in his chest.
But with Yolanda sitting right there, he forced himself to hold it in.
“Dad, did Mom hang up?” Yolanda asked with teary eyes, looking heartbreakingly fragile.
“Yeah,” Charles said.
Yolanda lowered her gaze, muttering, “Mom doesn’t want me anymore.”
Charles pulled her into his arms, comforting her, “That’s not true, honey. Your mom loves you so much. It’s never gonna happen, got it?”
But the more she remembered the good sides about Teresa, the more afraid she felt.
‘What I said that day must’ve stung her deeply,’ Yolanda thought.
‘I told her to get out… How could she not be hurt?
‘But Dad’s right. I’m her daughter. She wouldn’t just leave me alone.’
Charles had no idea what was going on with Teresa, but he didn’t want his little girl upset. He figured he’d talk to Teresa on the 15th and sort things out.
Even though she’d said she didn’t want a second child, Charles still believed she wouldn’t go against his family’s wishes.
The next morning. Teresa had just stepped into her office when she overheard a few nurses gossiping,
One said. “Heard that? The new doctor just got fired”
Another one asked. “Seriously? That guy’s a big deal. He’s only been here for three days, right?”
Someone chinned in. “Guess he ticked off someone important. I heard the director fired him.”
Another girl exclaimed, “No way. Three days in and already bred the must’ve had a huge ego. But honestly, he doesn’t look like that kind of guy
The first nurse anerged. Who knows? There’s always some drama behind the scenes
Another one nodded. “True With his resume we’re fucky he even came to our hospital. Only he could de those complicated bran surgeries. He’s a genus in the acedical Beld Thank they’d eat hai ke royalty. But three days and cute That’s definitely fishy

Chapter 35
Teresa frowned as she walked past them. She was sure they were talking about Hector.
She wondered, ‘But Hector is such a nice guy, not the type to start trouble. What exactly happened?‘
After changing into her white coat, Teresa stepped into the stairwell and called Hector.
Hector picked up fast, his voice sounding lazy. “Teresa, what’s up?”
Teresa said, “Hector, you…”
She hesitated, not sure how to ask.
Hector caught the hesitation and chuckled. “You wanna know why I got fired?”
Teresa replied, “Yes.”
Hector sounded like he was chewing something He answered in a casual tone, “It’s no big deal. Don’t worry about me.”
But Teresa wasn’t buying it. “But—”
Hearing his casual tone, Teresa finally eased up.
She said, “Yeah, you’re right. You’re Hector. Half those brain surgeries can’t even happen without you. Firing you is their loss.”
“It’s fine. Isn’t it a good vacation?” Hector joked.
Teresa felt better after hearing that. They chatted a bit longer before hanging up.
Instead of heading straight back to her office, Teresa stayed in the stairwell for a while.
She thought, ‘Hector got fired all of a sudden. There must be something behind it.‘
She just didn’t know what it was, and maybe Hector didn’t know either.
She was about to leave when voices drifted up from the floor below.
“Mr. Gould, I followed your instructions and fired Hector. I hope this is the result you wanted.”
And then came an even more familiar voice. “You did well.”
It was Jason’s voice.
Paul’s tone was uneasy, almost regretful. But Mr. Gould, Hector is a rare talent. Plenty of hospitals would kill to have him. Getting him here was our good fortune. I just don’t understand why we had to get him fired.
Jason didn’t bother explaining He said. “There are plenty of geniuses in the world. We’ll find someone better. And this was Charles’s
Chapter 35
Teresa stood against the wall, her back damp with sweat.
She’d imagined a lot of possibilities, but never that Charles would be the one behind Hector’s firing.
Since Charles was behind this, then everything suddenly made sense.
But again, she couldn’t quite understand why Charles targeted Hector like this.
Just as she was piecing things together, her phone rang
it was Hector calling.
She answered quickly. Hector said, “Professor Judd just called me. He wants your contact info.”
Teresa froze. “I…”
But before she could finish, Hector cut in. “Professor Judd appreciates talents. And I’m sure you can tell what he means. If Naomi can be his student, I believe you’re even more worthy.”
Teresa knew Hector said this for her benefit. Yet she caught something else entirely. “Wait, you’re saying Naomi is Professor Judd’s student?”
“Yeah,” Hector replied.
Teresa instantly put the pieces together. She said, “Got it.”
Hector sounded puzzled. “Got what?”
Teresa wasn’t completely sure, but her guess felt pretty solid. Still, she didn’t tell Hector what she was thinking.
She replied, “I mean, I’ll think about the school stuff. Thanks.”
“That’s great news. If Professor Judd hears that, he’ll be thrilled. Teresa, remember, you’ve always deserved the best,” Hector said warmly.
After a little more small talk, Teresa hung up.
Clutching her phone, she thought, ‘Charles must be going after Hector because of what happened that day in Professor Judd’s class.
‘During the discussion, Hector ignored Naomi completely and only talked to me.
‘Maybe that’s nothing to most people, but Naomi is his beloved. No way Charles could bear his precious girl get brushed off.”
