When She Walks Away (Teresa) novel Chapter 41

Chapter 41

Chapter 41

Inside the sleek black Rolls Royce, Charles and Yolanda sat in the back seat.

Yolanda had been crying for what felt like forever, and though she’d finally stopped, she still couldn’t stop trembling with sobs.

After a while, Naomi emerged from the school gates. As usual, Charles got out and opened the car door for her.

Naomi’s eyes were red, and she looked at him with gratitude. “Charles, thank you.”

He gave her a small, strained smile before walking around the car and sliding back into his seat.

Yolanda was sitting in the middle, with Charles and Naomi on either side of her.

Naomi’s injured finger wasn’t bandaged. She’d wrapped it in a bunch of tissues to stop the bleeding, but it was a makeshift fix at best.

She didn’t complain about the pain, though. As soon as she got in the car, she turned to Yolanda and said, “Yolanda, I’m sorry. I didn’t think things through, and now those people are talking about you because of me. It’s my fault.”

Yolanda’s eyes filled with tears again, and she threw herself into Naomi’s arms. “Miss Naomi, it’s not your fault. I messed up the dance, and that’s why they were talking about us. I’m the one who did something wrong.”

Naomi held Yolanda close, but her eyes kept sneaking glances at Charles. His face was tight and serious, and she could tell he was in a bad mood.

Not really paying attention to what Yolanda said, Naomi just apologized to Charles. “Charles, I’m sorry. I didn’t do a good job protecting

Yolanda.”

When Charles looked at Naomi, he managed to hide the chill in his eyes and gave her a faint smile. “It’s fine. You’ve never been a mom before, and honestly, you’re already doing great. What happened today isn’t on you.”

Yolanda lifted her head from Naomi’s arms. “Yeah, Miss Naomi, you have already done your best. It’s just that those people don’t know how to appreciate anything.

“And it’s kind of Mom’s fault, too; if she’d come with me to the event, people wouldn’t have started talking about me.”

Even though Yolanda was terrified that Teresa might not love her anymore, she couldn’t help but feel a surge of resentment when she thought about Teresa winning an award with Monica.

‘Mom was obviously free, but she still chose not to come to my event, Yolanda couldn’t help thinking. Just that alone was enough to make Yolanda hold a grudge against her.

Seeing both of them stand up for her, Naomi finally let herself relax. She hugged Yolanda tightly, her voice gentle as she said, “Yolanda, I will learn how to take better care of you. Next time, I promise I’ll do better.

Just then, Charles spoke up. “You’ve already worked so hard. I’ll find someone else to look after Yolanda.

Naomi had never had kids of her own, and she really didn’t want to be stuck as a babysitter. Since Charles had said it, she just went along with it and replied, “Alright then.”

Inside, Naomi was secretly thrilled, but on the outside, she put on a show of disappointment.

But Yolanda wasn’t having it. She pouted at Charles and said, “Dad, I don’t want anyone else to look after me. I just want Miss Naomi I can only sleep well when she’s with me.”

Charles’s face hardened as he replied, “Miss Naomi has her things to do, I’ll have your grandina come look after you.”

Yolanda’s face scrunched up in frustration. “I don’t want Grandma to look after me. She only likes boys. She doesn’t like me

It was true that Roselyn preferred boys, but she wasn’t bad to Yolanda, just not especially good to her

That was why Yolanda didn’t like her

Charles wasn’t about to back down just as he was about to say something. Naomi suddenly chimed in. Charles, let me look ahter Yolanda I can handle i

Naomi gently ruffled Yolanda’s hair, her gaze soft and full of warmth.

Charles turned to look at them, sounding a bit uneasy. “This might be too much for you.”

Naomi’s smile deepened. “It’s fine. Yolanda’s such a good girl. I just can’t bear to leave her by herself.”

Charles finally relented, letting out a helpless, “Okay.”

As he glanced down, he noticed Naomi’s injured hand was still oozing blood.

Once everyone had entered the main hall, Sharon quickly asked, “Would you like me to make something else for you, Mr. Logan?

Sharon remembered that Charles wasn’t really a fan of soup.

Charles thought for a moment before replying, “No, I’ll just have the soup, too.”

Sharon instantly understood–he just wanted to keep Naomi company and share the simple meal with her.

Upstairs, Charles told Naomi to rest in the guest room. Then he took Yolanda to the master bedroom and closed the door behind them.

Yolanda sat down on the sofa, looking a little confused by her dad’s behavior.

“Dad, what’s going on?she asked.

Charles sat down in front of her, gently holding her hand. “Yolanda, Dad wants to ask you something.

“Between Mom and Miss Naomi, who do you like more?Charles asked in a serious tone, watching Yolanda closely, trying to see what she was really thinking

Yolanda thought for a moment, then looked up at him and said, “I like both Mom and Miss Naomi.”

Charles frowned. “But if you had to choose just one?”

Yolanda hesitated, then lowered her head. “I don’t know.”

Even though I feel annoyed and kind of resentful toward Mom, I just can’t bring myself to give her up, Yolanda thought

Miss Naumi is really great, she’s so pretty and shines wherever she goes. Having her around makes me look good in front of everyone, Yolanda thought. If I really have to pick one, I really don’t know what to do.”

Seeing how conflicted she was, Charles cupped her cheek and said softly, “But it seems like Mom doesn’t care about us anymore

Yolanda let out a sigh of relief, jumped off the sofa, and hugged him tightly. “Dad, I want both Mom and Miss Naomi to love me. And I want you to love me, too.”

Charles’s heart melted. He gently rubbed his forehead against hers and said, “Miss Naomi and I will always love you.”

Yolanda looked up at him, her eyes wide with worry. “What about Mom?”

Charles smiled and gently tugged at her earlobe. “I will make sure Mom keeps loving you.”

Yolanda was so happy she jumped up and twirled around the room, spinning in circles like a little whirlwind.

Seeing his daughter like this, Charles couldn’t help but think, ‘Looks like there’s no escaping this marriage with Teresa after all.

“Whatever Teresa’s like, Yolanda will always be our kid. All I want is for her to be happy.
