Chapter 43
Teresa must have twisted her ankle; no matter how hard she tried, she just couldn’t straighten up for a long while.
Someone reached out to support her, and when Teresa turned around in surprise, she realized it was Hector.
Her eyes grew red and her nose tingled. As she lowered her gaze, tears spilled down her cheeks. “Why are you still here?” Teresa asked.
Hector crouched down beside her, grinning as he said, “What’s with you suddenly handing me your bank card for no reason?”
Teresa kept her head down, guilt heavy in her voice. “It’s all my fault that you had to—”
Before she could finish, Hector cut in, “I know.”
Hearing this, Teresa looked up at him, her eyes wide with surprise and confusion. “You-”
But Hector just smiled and said calmly, “I was never afraid.”
At the moment Paul told him he was fired, Hector already had a suspicion in his heart.
The only person who could really make it impossible for him to continue in the medical field was most likely Charles.
Considering everything that had happened recently, it wasn’t hard
figure out why.
Teresa bowed her head, still feeling guilty as she apologized, “I’m sorry.”
Hector supported her arm and teased, “What, planning to camp out here for the night?”
At his words, Teresa finally managed to stand up with Hector’s help.
The pain in her ankle was unbearable, and her body was covered in sweat. She didn’t dare put any weight on her foot, practically leaning on Hector for support.
Just then, a waiter’s voice rang out from not far away. “Hi, Mr. Logan.”
Hearing this, Teresa looked up and saw Charles walk right past her.
Charles had actually noticed Teresa earlier, and he’d seen her tumble down the steps at the restaurant entrance. He’d also caught Hector secretly slipping a card into her bag.
Charles had also heard Hector’s question, “What’s with you suddenly handing me your bank card for no reason?”
Charles had seen and heard everything.
Teresa and Hector were indeed getting very close–so close it was hard not to make Charles suspicious.
But in Teresa’s eyes, Charles was a cold and heartless man. He walked right past her without even glancing her way, not even offering a word of concern.
She thought to herself, Hasn’t he always been like this? Even if I dropped dead right in front of him, he probably wouldn’t even bat an eye‘
Thinking of this, Teresa let out a bitter laugh.
Hector could tell she was disappointed. He pressed his lips together and said, “Come on, let me help you over to the flower bed. Sit for a bil, and I’ll take a look at your ankle
Teresa nodded. “Okay”
She let Hector support her and sat down by the flower bed at the roadside.
After Charles entered the restauraut, he didn’t head straight to the private room Jason had sent him the number for. Instead, he turned back and looked shrough the glass dour at Teresa and Hector by the rogulside-
Hector was crouched to from of Teresa completely concerned as be took off her shoe and began massaging her ankle
To Charles, this was soothing that was simply beneath hi
Chapter 43
‘Seriously, what kind of man would do something like that for a woman in front of everyone?‘ he thought. He couldn’t help but feel a surge of contempt.
No wonder Hector could never accomplish anything significant.
The more Charles thought about it, the more agitated he became. Almost without realizing it, he called Liam.
“Hello, Mr. Logan,” Liam answered quickly.
Charles was silent for a long moment before finally saying, “Freeze Mrs. Logan’s card.”
If Charles remembered right, the card Teresa handed to Hector was actually the one he’d given her himself. It was supposed to be for her to use when she was looking after Yolanda Logan, so she could buy whatever she needed.
He’d always been generous, putting a nice chunk of money on that card every month.
Charles had no idea how much was left on it, but even if it wasn’t much, he wasn’t about to let some guy cash in on it.
In his eyes, Teresa giving Hector her bank card was basically her keeping Hector. So, he was going to freeze that card.
Hector looked up, and their eyes met. They were so close, it almost felt like they could kiss at any moment.
And Charles happened to witness the whole thing, catching that scene right as it unfolded. He abruptly hung up on Liam, turned around, and stormed into the private room.
As soon as he walked in, Jason and Naomi got up, but all they saw was his stormy face. He didn’t say a word; he was obviously in a foul mood.
Outside, Teresa instinctively pulled back when she realized just how close they were. But Hector caught her by the ankle, not even looking up at her. He just examined her foot for a while before saying, “It’s swollen.”
Teresa’s cheeks flushed instantly. She felt awkward and a little flustered, but there was no way she could really refuse Hector, so she just let him keep massaging her foot, feeling both embarrassed and helpless.
The vibe was getting pretty awkward, so she lowered her voice and said, “Hector, I really underestimated how much Charles cares about Naomi. If I hadn’t, you wouldn’t have ended up in this situation because of me.”
Teresa couldn’t shake the guilt in her heart..
Hector looked up at her with a smile. “But having your back was my own decision. You did nothing wrong, and you really don’t have to apologize.”
Teresa was at a loss for words. When she finally spoke, all she could manage was, “I’m sorry.”
Bun Hector held her hand and said. “Why act tough? It’s okay to let your self be a little soft sometimes. Nobody’s going to say anything.”
Teresa felt a rush of gratitude. Her eyes were still red as she said softly. “Okay, piggyback it is.”
It was the muddle of the day. Getting carried in his arms would be way too attention–grabbing
Her ankle was killing bwa, there was no way she could walk. Teresa thought maybe she could just hop over to the curb ou une foot and hati a cab.

But with Hector around, there was no way he’d let her fend for herself out there.
Hector crouched down in front of her, turning his back so she could climb on.
She hesitated for a few seconds, then finally leaned forward and let herself be carried.
Hector hoisted her up with ease, and as he walked through the crowd, he couldn’t help but smile.
Teresa’s face burned with embarrassment, so she buried it against Hector’s back.
The scene drew quite a few stares, but Hector didn’t care at all. He carried her openly, rounded the corner, and made his way toward the parking lot.
And just as Hector was carrying Teresa, Charles, who had come out for a smoke, saw the whole thing.
He stood by the glass door, cigarette between his fingers, but he just couldn’t bring himself to light it.
kumuarles was now even more sure there was something going on
Teresa didn’t even try to refuse him, and her cheeks were all red. between those two.
“Charles?” Naomi called out from behind, her voice tinged with worry.
Charles snapped out of his thoughts and finally lit his cigarette.
Naomi walked over, glanced outside, but saw nothing, “What’s wrong?” she asked.
Charles didn’t bother to explain. He just said, “Nothing.” He blew out a cloud of smoke, staring off into the distance like he was deep in thought.
Naomi had been with Charles for years, and she could instantly sense something was off about him. But since he wasn’t saying a word, she didn’t dare ask more.
So she just said, “Jason and the others are waiting for you at the table. Come on, let’s go in.”
Charles took another long drag on his cigarette before finally replying, sounding indifferent, “Yeah.”
His face looked calm, but you could see the storm brewing in his eyes–he was obviously pissed.
