When She Walks Away (Teresa) novel Chapter 53

Chapter 53

That evening, after work, Teresa headed back to Joyacre Villa. She knew Charles was just making things hard for her on purpose when he claimed he was busy that morning.

She couldn’t rest easy as long as Theodore and Yvonne’s crisis wasn’t resolved. This was something that had to be dealt with quickly.

When Sharon saw Teresa return, she looked clearly surprised but didn’t dare ask any questions.

“Mrs. Logan, what would you like for dinner? I can make it for you,” Sharon said respectfully.

Sharon was still quite respectful toward Teresa.

Teresa declined. “No, thanks. I’ll just wait here for Charles to come back.”

Sharon didn’t try to change her mind and just let her be.

She waited until eight o’clock, but Charles and his crew still hadn’t come back.

Neither Charles nor Yolanda had returned.

By nine o’clock, Teresa was starting to get impatient.

Sharon stayed with her, but then suddenly remembered something and quickly said, “Mrs. Logan, today’s the weekend. Miss Yolanda is off school.”

Teresa was confused and turned to Sharon. “Hmm?”

Sharon didn’t dare meet her eyes and replied softly, “Mr. Logan and Miss Yolanda might not come home tonight.”

Teresa picked up on something and frowned. “Do they usually stay out on weekends?

Sharon said, Sometimes they do.”

“If they’re not coming back, where would they go?Teresa asked.

Sharon felt uneasy but still answered, “Maybe they’re off on a trip, or maybe they’re at Ms. Yates‘ place. What they do is different every week, I guess.”

Her voice trailed off at the end.

Teresa got the message. She said lightly, “Got it.”

Sharon asked, “Mrs. Logan, are you getting ready to rest? I can run you a bath.

Teresa stood up from the couch and declined her kind offer. No, I’m heading back.” With that, she grabbed her bag and left without hesitation.

Seeing how resolute Teresa was, Sharon hurriedly blurted out, “Mrs. Logan, are you really never planning to come back and live here again?

Her steps faltered. Teresa thought for a moment before replying softly, “I don’t know.”

After leaving Joyacre Villa, Teresa called Charles from her car. The call went through, but no one picked up. So, she texted him instead: Il need to talk to you.]

After sending the message, she stared at her phone, waiting for a reply. But after a long time, there was still no response. In the end, Teresa finally admitted to herself. He’s ignoring me on purpose!

After driving back to Sullivan Mansion, Teresa went upstairs. She waited until Yvonne had coaxed Monica to sleep, then called Yvonne over to her room

Once Young was there. Teresa asked with concern. Yvonne, is work going okay?”

Yvonne smiled and said, ‘It’s tiny, really”

Teresa kept asking. but Youne just kept saying the same thing. It was clear Yvonne didn’t want Teresa to worry

Teresa didn’t ask any more questions. Once Yvonne left, she made her way to the study.

Just as she reached out to knock, Theodore’s voice rang out from inside. “I don’t believe Charles can just run the whole show. Let him try to keep me down all he wants. I’m never backing down to him.”

Upon hearing that, Teresa’s heart sank even further.

Ever since she got married, she’d never given her family a moment’s peace. Now that she’d finally made up her mind to let go, she’d ended up pulling them into even more trouble.

After Theodore finished his call, Teresa knocked softly on the door.

“Come in,” Theodore called from inside.

Teresa pushed the door open and walked in with a smile.

Theodore was standing by the floor–to–ceiling window, and the ashtray on his desk was piled high with cigarette butts. The whole room was thick with the harsh, acrid smell of cigarettes.

After Teresa opened the window, she turned to Theodore and said, “Theodore, aren’t you going to bed yet? It’s already so late.”

Teresa glanced at the dark computer screen but didn’t say anything. She just placed the bank card she’d been holding in her hand on the desk. “Theodore, this is some money I’ve saved up. It might help in a pinch.”

After putting down the card, Teresa left the study.

Charles might not have used his full strength against the Sullivan Family, but even what he’d done was already more than enough to crush them.

Teresa didn’t want her family to get dragged down because of her, so she could only keep trying to contact Charles.

Finally, when Teresa called again, someone picked upbut it was Naomi’s voice. “Ms. Sullivan, what can I do for you?” Naomi asked.

Hearing that voice sent a chill down Teresa’s spine. After a moment of silence, she finally replied, Yes.

Naomi’s voice was cool. “Charles is helping me wash my underwear. If you have something to say, you can tell me, and I’ll pass it on.

“No need,” Teresa replied crisply and hung up without hesitation.

She’d finally managed to get through, only to hang up just like that, so decisive, yet so defeated.

Teresa had been married to Charles for five years, and he’d never done a single thing for Teresa–not even something as simple as opening a car door. Yet that man, always so aloof and untouchable, was willing to lower himself for Naomi.

Because Naomi had answered that call, Teresa didn’t even think about reaching out to Charles again for the entire weekend,

Come Sunday, Teresa made another trip to Joyacre Villa.

“Mom Yolanda jumped off the couch as soon as she saw Teresa walk in, her eyes lighting up with delight

Teresa walked over, cooped Yolanda up, and set her down on the couch beside her Glancing around, she asked, “Where’s your dala

Yolanda thought for a moment, then answered a bit sheepishly, “Dad said something came up at the office, so he went to work.”

Teresa had raised Yolanda herself, so she could instantly tell if her daughter was up to something. But she didn’t press her about it; there was really no point.

After thinking for a moment, Teresa asked, “Yolanda, where did you go to have fun this weekend?”

Yolanda could barely wait to brag, so when Teresa asked, she blurted out, “We went swimming.”

We?‘ Teresa wondered.

Teresa paused for a second, but kept her cool and asked calmly, “Who else was there?”

Yolanda replied, “Just Dad and me.”

Teresa could tell Yolanda wasn’t telling the whole truth, but she just responded lightly, “Got it.”

“Mom, why are you suddenly asking me that?” Yolanda blinked, looking puzzled.

Teresa just smiled and said, “It’s nothing. Go get some rest.”

Yolanda tilted her head up, her eyes hopeful. “Mom, will you take me to school tomorrow?

With Charles still nowhere to be seen, Teresa could only nod. “Yes.”

That night, Teresa slept with Yolanda, keeping her company

Maybe it was just her anxiety, but she couldn’t get any real rest. Teresa kept waking up, and every time she checked her phone, only a few minutes had gone by.

Even by three in the morning, there was still no sign of Charles coming home. Maybe he wasn’t planning to come back at all tonight.

Or maybe right now, Charles was already asleep, holding the woman he truly loved in his arms.
