When She Walks Away (Teresa) novel Chapter 72

Chapter 72

Yolanda answered the phone, “Not yet. Miss Naomi and I are going to the beach later to watch the stars.”

Charles sat in the living room, lit a cigarette, and said lightly, “Alright, just don’t stay out too late. Get some rest afterward.”

Yolanda murmured, then asked hopefully, “Dad, are you coming? It feels like something’s missing when you’re not here, and Miss Naomi seems a bit down too.”

Charles glanced at Teresa, who was still standing in the bathroom. Remembering that Richard had asked him to stay over, he turned down Yolanda’s invitation. “Not tonight. Next time, I’ll take you and Naomi out myself.”

Yolanda sounded disappointed. “Alright then.”

“Go spend some time with Naomi. I’ll hang up now,” Charles said.

Yolanda lit up at the mention of Naomi. “Okay, I’m heading out then. Dad, if you do ‘come, make sure it’s early.”

“Okay,” Charles responded. After Yolanda hung up, he put his phone away.

Teresa, who had overheard the conversation, felt a pang of disappointment. Not once during the call had Yolanda mentioned her. Her heart ached, but not a single tear fell.

Not wanting anyone to see her weakness, Teresa closed the bathroom door, pretending she just needed the bathroom.

Charles saw it all but kept silent.

Teresa stayed in the bathroom for a bit, waiting until she calmed down before opening the door and stepping out.

When she came out, she saw Charles lying on the bed, already showered. He must’ve used the guest bathroom.

Charles was lying on his side, watching videos on his phone. On the big bed, he was only on one side, deliberately leaving the other half empty, like he was saving it for Teresa.

Teresa saw it, but she couldn’t tell if that’s what he meant. Either way, she wasn’t about to share a bed with him.

Teresa made her way to the sofa, curled up under a blanket, and switched off the lights, leaving only a faint glow in the

room.

Charles frowned when he saw her settle on the sofa, but his pride wouldn’t let him ask her to join him on the bed. So, he chose silence.

Before long, Teresa’s steady breathing filled the room.

Charles initially thought he was imagining it, but when he listened closely, he realized it was real.

The next morning, Teresa woke up to find the bed empty-Charles was nowhere to be seen. She didn’t think much of it, just washed up and headed downstairs.

Spotting Susan busy in the kitchen, Teresa asked offhandedly, “Have you seen Charles?”

Susan paused, then shook her head. “No, Mrs. Logan, I haven’t seen Mr. Logan.”

Teresa nodded without giving it much thought.

It was still early, so she figured she’d have breakfast with Richard at the Logan Manor before heading to work. She plopped

down on the living room sofa and started scrolling through her phone.

Unlike before, she no longer tried to please the Logans.

Susan and the other staff noticed and looked surprised.

As she scrolled, Teresa came across the news. [CEO of Logan Group, Charles Logan, spends midnight under the stars with his wife and daughter-a truly loving family.]

Curious, Teresa tapped in and saw tons of media coverage. There were loads of photos showing Charles, Yolanda, and Naomi sitting together, the whole scene looking warm, sweet, and picture-perfect.

The photos only showed their backs, but Teresa could clearly sense the happiness between Charles and Yolanda.

So, he was with Naomi and Yolanda.

This reality didn’t surprise Teresa at all.

When Yolanda had called last night, Charles had probably wanted to go right away, but he stayed behind to respect Richard’ request for him to stay. Yet, in the end, Naomi had always come first.

The comments were explosive.

[They’ve already got a kid, but still sneaking around? Are these big shots really that allergic to commitment? Can’t even throw a wedding?]

[Is a wedding really that important?]

[Who cares about a wedding? I’d gladly do laundry and cook for a guy like him for the rest of my life. That’s the kind of man we all go crazy for.]

[Why is this even trending? Does anyone care about what regular folks are going through?]

[Not interested!]

The comments ranged from envy to criticism, with some calling Charles irresponsible and others saying it was making a mountain out of a molehill.

But no matter what anyone said, Teresa couldn’t bring herself to care.

Everyone knew Charles had his one true love, but few knew that his wife wasn’t the woman everyone thought she was.

Just as Teresa put her phone away, she spotted Richard walking into the hall from the backyard. When he saw her, his eyes lit up. “Teresa, aren’t you busy today?”

Richard usually ate alone at the Logan Manor. He would’ve loved some company, but his kids were always busy and rarely

came home.

Teresa stood up and called out cheerfully, “Good morning, Richard! It’s still early, so I’ll have breakfast with you before I head to the hospital.” She understood Richard’s loneliness and wanted to spend more time with him.

Richard was really pleased, kept praising Teresa for being so considerate. But when he noticed Charles wasn’t around, he frowned and asked, “Where’s Charles?”

Teresa paused, but when she finally spoke, she said, “He went to the office. Said he had an important meeting.”

Richard rarely went online, so he didn’t know what was happening, which was why Teresa decided to hide the truth.

She was planning to divorce Charles anyway, so there was no point in causing trouble over something so minor.

After breakfast, Richard was reluctant to let Teresa leave, repeatedly reminding her, “Come visit whenever you have time, okay? I’m not getting any younger, and I don’t know how many days I’ve got left to wait for you all.”

Teresa’s heart ached with every word, constantly agreeing and nodding along.

After Richard had reminded her several times, he finally let her go, clearly unwilling to see her leave.

As Teresa was leaving Logan Manor, she unexpectedly ran into Roselyn.

She was wearing a bright blue dress, adorned with jewels, looking extravagant and luxurious.

Teresa saw her and immediately sensed the hostility coming from her. Clearly, Roselyn had been waiting for her outside.

“Well, finally decided to come out, huh?” Roselyn mocked, her tone sharp.

Teresa wasn’t interested in her nonsense and coldly replied, “Spit it out. Whatever you want to say, just say it.”

After five years of marriage to Charles, Teresa had heard enough of Roselyn’s taunts. She used to keep the peace for the sake of family harmony, but not anymore.

Roselyn circled Teresa, her eyes cold as she spat, “Don’t think just because Richard’s backing you up, you can boss me around.”

Teresa calmly replied, “Please. I don’t want anything to do with you.”

Roselyn, used to Teresa being meek and submissive, was taken aback by this sharp retort. But she quickly recovered, brushing off Teresa’s words. “If you still can’t give him a child, I’ll make sure Charles kicks you out.”

Roselyn’s threat came with confidence, as if she were already certain Charles would listen to her.

Teresa smiled coolly. “If you really manage that, dinner’s on me.” It didn’t matter to her-she had long since decided to leave this marriage.
