Chapter 89
Chapter 89
When Charles spoke, Jason and Naomi were standing behind him.
When he mentioned “my wife,” Jason instinctively glanced at Naomi, who looked back at him.
Their eyes met, but both remained silent.
Jason couldn’t quite figure out why Charles had suddenly brought up Teresa. He obviously didn’t love his wife, so the casual, acknowledging way he mentioned her was genuinely confusing.
Naomi lowered her gaze, her lips pressed into a thin line. Jason knew exactly what she was thinking.
But he’d already made up his mind: he was on her side. He would support her in becoming Charles’s future wife.
Charles didn’t mention anything else besides the gifts.
Jason walked them out of the Gould residence and watched as they got into the car before heading back inside.
The driver was up front, with Charles and Naomi sitting in silence in the back seat.
Charles stared down at his phone, his thumb swiping aimlessly across the screen.
Noticing his distraction, Naomi finally broke the silence. “Charles.”
He glanced over at her. “What is it?”
Unle
Naomi didn’t dare bring up what Jason’s mother had said. Instead, she said, “I won’t go to Joyacre Villa tonight. I have to go home for a couple of days.”
She didn’t specify why, and Charles didn’t ask. He just nodded. “Okay.”
Naomi sensed he wasn’t happy and wondered if it was because of the earlier conversation. She cautiously tested the waters. “Charles, will you come pick me up when I get back?”
Charles looked at her, a small smile curving his lips. “Yes.”
Though he was a man of few words and his tone was flat, Naomi understood. His promise to pick her up meant he wasn’t angry.
In fact, he probably hadn’t given it a second thought.
And not giving it a thought was its own kind of acceptance.
As she was thinking this, Charles suddenly asked, “By the way, when are you leaving?”
Naomi paused for a second before replying, “Tomorrow morning.”
Charles thought for a moment. Tll come see you off tomorrow.”
A wide smile spread across Naomi’s face. “Thank you, Charles.”
Charles smiled back, his eyes soft and indulgent.
Naomi shyly looked down, the last of her worries finally melting away
She had been afraid that Charles would be angry, but it seemed she had been overthinking things.
After the driver dropped Naomi off, he took Charles back to Joyacre Villa
It was already after mine in the evening when he arrived
As they pulled into the driveway, Charles saw the living room lights were still on. He could just make out Yolanda’s silhouette as she played with her toys.
A smile touched his face at the thought of his daughter.
When he walked into the foyer, Sharon, who was watching over Yolanda, was the first to see him. “Mr. Logan, you’re back.”

Charles changed his shoes at the door, hung his coat on the rack, and loosened his tie as he walked toward Yolanda.
“Has my wife been here?” he asked Sharon.
Sharon frowned and shook her head. “No, Mrs. Logan hasn’t been back in a long time.”
Teresa hadn’t been over since Jason’s mother’s surgery.
Charles’s brow furrowed. After a pause, he asked again, not ready to give up, “Not even this morning?”
Sharon looked at him and shook her head. “No, she hasn’t.”
Yolanda put down her toys and looked up at Charles. “Daddy.”
“Hi, sweetie,” Charles said, sitting down in front of her.
He took her small hand in his. “Did Mommy call you?”
Yolanda tilted her head, thinking hard for a moment before shaking it. “No.”
Charles’s frown deepened. “And you? Did you call her?”
Yolanda was still her daughter, after all, and she had promised Charles she would fulfill her motherly duties.

Since her own daughter didn’t appreciate the gesture, she had no intention of making a thankless effort,
When she got there, Sharon had already prepared breakfast.
Teresa sat at the dining table, scrolling through the news on her phone,
Charles and Yolanda weren’t down yet; they were probably still asleep.
It was still early, so Teresa figured she would wait.
She hadn’t been reading for long when Charles came down the stairs.
He was still in his bathrobe.
MOONHNIE
Hearing the sound, Teresa glanced up, only to see him walking straight toward her.
Before she could react, he was standing in front of her. The robe hung slightly open, revealing the hard planes of his muscular chest.
Teresa remembered the firm feel of that muscle under her hands, and an involuntary swallow tightened her throat.
She quickly averted her gaze, not wanting him to see the effect he had on her.
After a long moment, Charles finally spoke. “Iron my shirt.”
Teresa was confused. She looked around the dining room. It was just the two of them.
‘Was he talking to me?‘ Teresa wondered.
Teresa looked up at him, “Sharon’s in the kitchen. Ask her to do it.”
She knew he’d never ask his precious Naomi to do such a tedious chore.

In the past, Teresa would have jumped at the chance, seeing it as a gift, a small scrap of his attention.
But not anymore. She was done waiting on him.
