Lemira noticed how tense Orion looked and gave him a reassuring smile. “Go ahead, what’s on your mind?”
Before Orion could speak, the head of the foundation approached her. “Ms. Langston, we have some urgent matters that need your attention.”
“I’ll be right there,” Lemira replied, turning back to Orion. “Do you want to tell me now, or should I catch up with you after I’m done?”
Orion hesitated, clearly struggling to find the right words. Maybe it had something to do with what Asher had mentioned earlier?
With a resigned sigh, Orion said, “You should go.”
Lemira nodded and followed the head of the foundation, leaving Orion to deal with Matthew.
Orion glanced at Matthew with a warning. “Watch what you say from now on.”
“Asher, I thought you told Lemira everything already. Why keep it a secret? She’s not the type to care about money; she likes you for who you are.”
“I know,” Orion admitted.
“Then what’s holding you back?” Matthew asked, puzzled.
Orion’s expression turned somber, and he spoke quietly, “It’s because I’ve wronged her.”
If only that accident had never happened between him and Lemira. He could freely tell her who he truly was without any guilt.
—
Lemira left with the foundation team.
On the drive, she texted Orion, telling him and Matthew not to wait for her since she had more work to finish. She needed to put the foundation back in order after reclaiming it. As for Evelina, she’d just have to wait until the bait was taken.
