You Looked Down on Me Once, Now You Look Up. novel Chapter 573

No, that’s not quite right. I should say he’s the grandson who’s already got the marriage certificate, but still hasn’t brought his wife home yet.

As Miles spoke, he glanced over at the Brooks family, then shot Oliver a look that clearly said, “Seriously?” before muttering, “Figure it out yourself.”

When everyone else walked off, Oliver wandered a bit farther away with his phone and called Patricia. “You’re up? Why didn’t you sleep a little longer?”

“I’m all rested,” Patricia replied warmly. “Are you there already?”

“Yeah, I just got here. If you go out today, have Aiden bring a few more people with you, just to be safe. I might need to stay in Golden Bay for a few more days. I’ll tell Hector as well, so if anything comes up you can’t handle, reach out to him.”

Oliver rambled on, tossing out reminders left and right.

But all Patricia really heard was that he might be staying in Golden Bay longer.

Johns had said he was out dealing with something—did something happen at home?

“Did something happen at home?”

Oliver was caught off guard by her question.

He’d always thought Patricia wanted nothing to do with Golden Bay, and definitely didn’t want to be involved with his family. But the way she asked today made him realize maybe he’d been overthinking things.

What was he so worried about anyway? Was he afraid Patricia didn’t like Golden Bay? Or that she didn’t want to meet his family?

Oliver, you’re making this more complicated than it needs to be. What are you really afraid of?

“It’s fine for now. If anything does come up, I’ll let you know in advance.”

“Alright. Just let me know whenever,” Patricia replied quietly.

Right before hanging up, Oliver rattled off a few more instructions. Patricia just listened, calm and quiet.
