The moment he saw her, Tyson immediately let go of Celia's hand.
But Winona's gaze passed over their clasped hands with a calm indifference.
After all that, was there really any point in pretending nothing had happened? The whole charade was laughable.
"Nona…" Tyson called out softly, but Winona didn't respond. She simply walked straight back to her own guest room.
"Ty, is Miss Thorne upset?" Celia tugged at his arm, giving him a hopeful shake. "Maybe you should go talk to her?"
Tyson frowned, wanting to tell Celia not to worry about it, but for some reason, the words wouldn't come. He gently shook off her hand and walked toward the guest room.
Celia's smile faltered.
She hadn't actually expected him to go after Winona!
But then again, they still needed Winona—after all, she was the one carrying their future child. There wasn't much she could do about it.
If only she could have children herself—then Winona wouldn't even matter.
Winona sat at her desk, reaching for her antacid when the sound of the door opening startled her.
"Nona, why'd you come back so early tonight?"
She knew it was Tyson, but didn't bother to turn around or answer.
Tyson came up beside her, noticing the pills in her hand. His voice was immediately laced with concern. "Taking medicine again? Are you not feeling well?"
He picked up the bottle and glanced at the label. "Is your stomach acting up again? Why didn't you tell me?"
"There's no need," Winona replied flatly.
Tyson's gaze darkened, his tone softening.
"Is your stomach really that bad? Let me rub it for you."
He reached out, but Winona tensed and instinctively pushed her chair back, the screech of wood against the floor cutting through the silence.
"Nona?" Tyson's face clouded with irritation.
"That's not necessary," she said, rising to her feet. "I'm fine. I just want to rest now. Could you leave?"
"Are you still upset about tonight?" Tyson stepped forward and pulled her into his arms. "Nona, be reasonable, okay? Celia just started at the company. If you don't cut her some slack, how can she ever get along with the executive office?"
Winona's lips twisted in a bitter smile. "With you around, does she really have anything to worry about?"
