Tyson wasn't exactly weak, but up against two trained bodyguards, he didn't stand a chance.
All he could do was watch helplessly as Winona climbed into the car.
The vehicle sped away, leaving him behind.
The bodyguards kept dragging him backwards, making it clear they wanted him nowhere near the Thorne family.
"Let go of me! Get your hands off!" Tyson shouted, his temper flaring. "Do you have any idea who I am? I'm—"
Before he could finish, he caught sight of an elegant woman walking her dog nearby, glancing over with curiosity.
He immediately clamped his mouth shut, ducked his head, and didn't dare utter another word.
He already looked pathetic enough. If word got out about him causing a scene here, he'd never live it down.
…
By the time Winona arrived at the restaurant where she'd arranged to meet Veronica, her friend was already there, waiting at their table.
"Sorry to keep you waiting," Winona said as she took the seat across from her.
"Not at all, I just got here myself," Veronica replied, pushing a glass of freshly squeezed juice toward her. "You don't look so good—everything okay?"
Winona gave a wry smile. "It's nothing. Just ran into a mad dog on my way here—it slowed me down a bit."
Veronica immediately caught on. "Tyson?"
"Yeah."
Winona gave her a quick rundown of what had just happened.
Veronica, never one to hide her feelings, slammed her hand on the table. "He actually showed up at your place? Has he no shame?"
