Even though he tried to be gentle, in the end, Elvis couldn't quite hold back.
"I'm fine," Winona replied, shaking her head softly. But then, her ears flushed pink as she leaned in close, whispering in his ear, "You know, you're not exactly a great kisser."
Elvis didn't get upset at her teasing. Instead, he just smiled indulgently. "It was my first kiss. I'm not very practiced. Do you think you could forgive me, Winona?"
"So, you're saying… that was your very first kiss?" she asked, a little surprised.
"Of course," Elvis answered without hesitation.
Winona remembered hearing rumors before—Elvis was said to be indifferent to women, never seen with anyone. Now she realized the stories were at least half true: He'd never been with anyone, that much was clear. But indifferent? That part was obviously a lie.
Elvis sighed and slid his arm around her waist, pulling her close. "I'll just have to practice more, so you won't be disappointed."
Practice more? The implication made Winona blush. She pinched his arm lightly. "Keep dreaming."
Elvis let out a low, amused laugh.
Just then, her phone buzzed. She glanced at the screen—it was a message from her father, asking when she'd be home.
"It's late. I should get going," she said.
"I'll drive you," Elvis replied. He stood, grabbed a jacket, and draped it over her shoulders. "It gets chilly at night."
Elvis drove her to the front of the Thorne estate. Winona unbuckled her seatbelt and turned to him, as if she wanted to say something more. Before he could react, she leaned over and pressed a quick, feather-light kiss to his lips. "Goodnight," she whispered, then hurried out of the car.
Elvis watched her go, a helpless smile tugging at his lips.
She sure can run fast.
He didn't drive off right away. Instead, he pulled out his phone and sent her a message.
"You left before I could say goodnight."
