A Vow of Deception, A Vow of Revenge novel Chapter 171

Was it because Milo had been such a gracious host tonight?

He really had pulled out all the stops, welcoming them with the utmost sincerity. Still, he doubted Elvis would agree to help him with something important just because of a pleasant dinner.

Elvis smiled, turning his gaze back to Winona.

"Because she's happy."

Following Elvis's eyes, Milo saw Winona doubled over with laughter at something his wife had just said, her whole face lit up with genuine delight.

Now that he thought about it, Winona had indeed been in high spirits since arriving. She'd mentioned how much she liked the estate, enjoyed the dinner, and, most importantly, instantly clicked with his wife.

So Elvis agreed to help him, simply because Winona was having a good time here?

Milo's surprise flickered in his eyes.

He'd known Elvis for quite some time now, and had always assumed he was indifferent when it came to women.

Recently, there had been talk of an engagement between the Rogers and Thorne families. Milo assumed it was just a business arrangement, but then he'd heard rumors that Elvis and Winona were genuinely close.

Seeing them together tonight, the rumors proved to be true.

No, actually—their relationship seemed even warmer than the rumors let on.

"Mr. Rogers is truly devoted to President Thorne," Milo remarked with genuine admiration.

Elvis didn't respond, his eyes never leaving Winona. It wasn't until she seemed to sense his gaze and glanced up, their eyes meeting across the room, that he finally moved. Winona paused for a moment, then offered him a soft, knowing smile.

A faint smile tugged at Elvis's lips in return.

Milo warmly invited them to stay the night at the estate, but Elvis and Winona had already arranged to stay at the Thorne family's villa nearby—a place much closer to the business conference venue.

They politely declined, and Milo didn't press the matter.
