A Vow of Deception, A Vow of Revenge novel Chapter 18

Once they stepped out of the car, Elvis's cool gaze swept over both her and Tyson.

When his eyes landed on her, he seemed to pause for a fraction of a second, but quickly regained his usual composure.

"Mr. Chamberlain, what a coincidence running into you here," said Mr. Lewis, reaching out to shake Mr. Chamberlain's hand. Without missing a beat, he added, "I'm hosting Mr. Rogers for dinner tonight."

"Mr. Rogers…" Mr. Chamberlain's eyes lit up.

They might not live in the same city, but who hadn't heard of Elvis?

He exchanged a glance with Tyson—one look, and the two seemed to instantly understand each other.

After greeting Elvis, Mr. Chamberlain enthusiastically suggested, "We're having dinner here tonight as well. Why don't we all sit together? It's always livelier with more company."

Mr. Lewis readily agreed. After all, tonight's dinner wasn't about anything confidential, and these kinds of gatherings often sparked new business opportunities—sometimes a deal could come together over a glass of wine.

"Mr. Rogers, what do you think?" Mr. Lewis turned to Elvis, seeking his opinion.

Elvis replied mildly, "I'll go along with your arrangements, Mr. Lewis."

His words were polite enough, but the air of authority about him was impossible to ignore.

Mr. Chamberlain and Mr. Lewis both kept their most agreeable smiles in place.

Tyson could feel the pressure in the room—it was almost suffocating.

No wonder Elvis was the heir to the Rogers family, one of the most powerful families in the capital.

Out of the corner of his eye, Tyson glanced at Winona, only to realize she was looking at Elvis.

Tyson's brows knit together, and a wave of irritation rose in his chest.

He shifted a few steps to the side, blocking Winona's line of sight.

Winona blinked, confused by his sudden movement.

Seriously?

She was only thinking about the time Elvis had helped her, that was all.

But Elvis clearly had no intention of acknowledging her now, and she certainly wasn't going to make things awkward.

The group made their way to a private dining suite on the top floor of the restaurant. After a few glasses of wine, the conversation somehow drifted to Winona.

Mr. Chamberlain and a few other clients had nothing but praise for her—she was young, talented, and always got things done without a hitch.

Winona accepted the compliments with poise and grace, never arrogant, always polite.

Yet every so often, she felt a piercing gaze on her.

She instinctively knew it was Elvis.

But each time she glanced over at him, he didn't appear to be looking her way.

Was she just imagining it?

Soon, the conversation shifted to Celia.

Mr. Chamberlain, who could never hold his liquor, started getting tipsy after a few glasses.
