"Being too sure of yourself isn't always a good thing."
She glanced at her watch. "The meeting's about to start, Mr. Goodwin. Maybe you shouldn't waste your time with this nonsense."
She turned to leave. Tyson watched her retreating figure and suddenly called out, "Nona, stay away from Elvis Rogers."
"You have no right to interfere in my life." Winona's patience was wearing thin.
"He doesn't have good intentions toward you."
Winona let out a short, incredulous laugh. "Mr. Goodwin, instead of worrying about me, maybe you should ask yourself if you've gone too far—so far that people can't stand the sight of you."
With that, she opened the office door and strode out.
Tyson stared after her, a bitter taste in his mouth.
He'd waited for her to come to him, to patch things up, but she never did. When he finally swallowed his pride and tried to make amends, she still turned him away.
Nona, what do you want from me? How far do I have to go before you'll finally let this go?
By the time Winona finished the meeting with the clients and wrapped up the project discussion, it was already after hours. Without so much as a glance in Tyson's direction, she left the office building without looking back.
Tyson was simmering with frustration when, just then, a senior manager approached him with a report.
"We tried reaching out to the Thorne Group, but so far, there's been no response from their side… Mr. Goodwin, I'm starting to think they just don't want to work with us," the manager ventured, treading carefully.
Tyson's expression hardened. "You can't even handle something this basic? Am I paying you all just to keep a bunch of dead weight around here?"
The manager's face went rigid. He wanted to argue—how could landing a deal with the Thorne Group be called basic?—but one look at Tyson's thunderous face, and he thought better of it.
Tyson was just venting. He knew perfectly well how crucial a partnership with the Thorne Group would be; if they could pull it off, Goodwin Enterprises would see profits soar.
But none of his people could even get them in the door.
