A Vow of Deception, A Vow of Revenge novel Chapter 67

Elvis didn't respond. Instead, he turned slightly toward Winona and, in a voice only the two of them could hear, asked, "Are you alright?"

There was something in his tone—an undercurrent of strength—that eased the tension coiled inside her.

Tyson watched the quiet familiarity between them, a wave of anger rising hot and fast. "Elvis, what the hell is this supposed to mean?"

"Nothing." Elvis met his gaze, eyes cold as steel. "I'm here to take her home."

"Nona doesn't need you to take her anywhere," Tyson snapped, his jaw set stubbornly.

Elvis's eyes flicked to the red marks on Winona's wrist, and in an instant, the fury in his gaze burned even hotter than Tyson's.

Before Tyson could get another word out, Elvis took a single, purposeful stride and kicked him square in the chest.

Caught completely off guard, Tyson toppled backward, crashing hard onto the marble floor. Pain shot through his back and chest, leaving him gasping.

He stared up in disbelief.

Elvis actually dared—

He wanted to shout, to demand an explanation, but when he met Elvis's eyes, the words caught in his throat. Those usually calm eyes now blazed with a barely contained, almost savage rage.

"Oh my God, Tyson! Are you okay?"

Marcus, who'd been lurking nearby watching from the shadows, realized things had gone way too far. He rushed out and hauled Tyson to his feet, then rounded on Elvis with wide, furious eyes. "Who the hell do you think you are, laying hands on Tyson? Are you out of your mind?"

Elvis didn't even spare Marcus a glance. His attention was locked on Tyson, his voice ice-cold and dangerous. "You've got a lot of nerve, Tyson."

"What's that supposed to mean?" Tyson shot back, but his anger suddenly sounded weak and hollow compared to Elvis's.

Elvis let out a low, mocking laugh.
