"She’s leaving Barnaby." Hughes walked up to the man instructing the servants on what food to give the madman today.
"Who is?" He turned to the woman who looked so worried.
"The new mistress. She said wants a divorce." Hughes moved backward to avoid their mad master spitting all over her dress.
The madman was at it again, spitting everything in his mouth on the servants just for fun. Most times they get frustrated and other times, they just sigh.
"What is wrong with him today? Shouldn’t he be calm after how violent he was yesterday?" She spat.
That is how it has always been. One day violent, the next day calm. It’s like clockwork.
"He should, but Master Osvaldo looks a little more happy today," Barnaby said.
"What do we do about the girl, she wants to leave." Hughes changed the conversation. Panny leaving was much more important than Osvaldo acting normal or not. It’s not like he has ever been normal.
The last thing she wanted was to go through another punishment at the hands of Abby, Greg, or Chris.
"You have nothing to worry about Hughes. Focus more on preparing her, mistress would deal with the situation herself." Barnaby ordered and Hughes went on with his instructions.
They have suffered for far too long to keep suffering again. Now they have found the true bride of the madman, they would do anything to not lose her.
Back in the bathroom.
"Because you’re master chosen Bride." Penny laughed at Rosie’s words. Chosen Bride indeed.
"It’s not funny Miss Penny. The Adkins are not good people. You should run as far away from them as you can. Do not listen to whatever deal they’ll offer, it’s all lies." Rosie said with all seriousness.
There was only little she could do to help her new miss. She didn’t want Penny to die like the other women, but that would mean Penny helping herself too.
"You’re the only woman master didn’t harm. The only one who survived. That makes you important now. They won’t let you leave." Penny’s smile faded.
Why wouldn’t they let her leave?
"What are you talking about?" Penny asked.
Rosie hesitated for a moment, glancing toward the door, then leaned in. "I heard something yesterday. From Barnaby. It’s the real reason they’ve been searching for a bride." She had overheard Barnaby and Hughes talking about it while she went to her room to sleep.
The information was too big. It was something no one knew in the entire Owlsgrave.
She began pouring warm water over Penny’s head and gently massaging shampoo into her hair as she spoke.
"They want to use you, Miss. Since you’re married to Master Osvaldo, his inheritance is yours. Everything the Adkins own is yours, that is why you’re being treated as a queen."
This was truly ridiculous. Penny thought.
